When it’s a bit colder out, I’ll have a down jacket I can put in a stuff sack, but there may be times when I don’t have any extra clothes to use as a pillow. For those of you who use a dedicated camp pillow, what are you using. I am a side sleeper.

If there are pack animals I bring the pillow off my bed....game changer!

The argali pillow https://argalioutdoors.com/collections/sleeping-bags/products/elite-dream-backpacking-pillow looks like a great option.

Some nice pillow talk going on…
Im a side sleeper also and i roll up a jacket in a stuff sack

I'm also a side sleeper. I used to think bringing a pillow into the backcountry was silly, so I slept on everything from a climbing rope to a stuff sack or pillow case with puffy or other layers in it. Then I realized that the pillow case weighed the same as a Sea to Summit Aeros pillow (2.8 oz), so I decided to try one. With the Aeros I get better sleep, it's easy to adjust firmness, doesn't slide around as much and it's very compact. Worth it for me.

I've owned far too many backpacking pillows. The Argali pillow is very versatile, and it's nice to be able to add bulk.

I also like this one. Very comfortable for a side sleeper, and it's cheap.

The Zenbivy deluxe pillow is really comfy, packs down well too. A little pricey but I think they have a good sale around Memorial Day

Check this out. 7 ounces and the Triple S Pillow triples as a sleeping pillow, as a sitting pad, and as a shooting.

Doubled up it makes a great side sleeping pillow.

Another vote for the nemo. Pillow is one thing I don't care about the weight too much on, it needs to work or it's useless. Tried a bunch and settled on the nemo, keep it 80% inflated and if I want I can add clothes. Nothing worse than a poor nights sleep, makes any walking feel like I have a 100lb pack and it's a 90 degree incline. I just don't function well when I sleep poorly.

I used to use a puffy in a stuffsack, but then one time I got cold and wanted to wear it….
Tried a bunch of dedicated backpacking pillows and they all sucked. So I cut 10” from an open-cell foam pillow, the type youd find on a normal bed at home. One side is thick, the other thin, so I can shift it around depending on sleep position, whether its on the pad or off the back of the pad, etc. I just wrap it in a shirt most of the time. It weighs 6oz, and crams into most anywhere inside my pack.

If you are backpacking, it's the Exped Mega pillow for me--I have tried a lot of other improvised and store-bought camping pillows and this is the only one I am truly satisfied with. If you aren't carrying it, bring your pillow from home!
