Lets see that pretty wood

This thread reminded me,

This is a .22 that grandad built for my dad in 1954, it’s been through every kid in the family as a starter rifle. Tomorrow my wife and I will be bringing its 12th owner into the world :)

Man, that is one of the coolest things I've read on here. Congratulations on both that awesome family heritage, and continuing it! Good luck tomorrow!

Not the best pictures but what I have on my phone.
A Winchester M70 walnut super grade and Tikka hunter walnut.

Some fine wood and firearms gents, thanks for sharing!

Here's one for you all. Looking at these blanks and without being able to see in person, which one would you choose if you were picking one for a rifle? Right, middle or left?

This is the grain I’m seeing. From what I see the left blank looks the best. Id also ask to look at the top and bottom to see where the grain is going as well as asking the moisture content. Just picky me though!

Agree with that^^. The middle blank looks flat sawn so the direction might be ok, but youd need to see the edge grain to be sure. If the edges are straight thru the blank they could all be issues.
They all look nice visually, so assuming all else is equal Id decide based on grain flow, and maybe weight.
