Aside from heavy snow or extreme winds…does a Hilleberg have that much of an advantage over a Big Agnes???
I know that’s a loaded question, but dollar for dollar are you going to be just as happy with the performance of a BA?

Never had a Hilleberg or seen one in person... they seem bombproof but more expensive and heavier than other brands. I have been very happy with the Big Agnes tents I have. 2017 - now Copper Spur 1P. I use it summer and fall backpack hunting. It is very light, easy to pitch, just resprayed with Scotchguard this summer and it put up with a lot of rain this fall without a drip. Brother has Tiger wall 3p he is happy with. I have also had 3P car camping - type... Manzanares? All good tents. Find them on sale and buy!

I like my Nallo 2 GT. But it's kinda heavy. Over 7lb with the footprint. So around 6 without the print.

Had some really bad winds this past week. It definitely had no issues as you'd expect.

Got it for a crazy deal on eBay. Not sure I'd pay retail for one. Honestly I hate paying retail for anything.

Not much experience with other tents. Mainly just floorless hot tents.

There's other 4 seasons that are a lot lighter. Like the Access 2. But the giant vestibule was great to yard sale the pack and organize and prep the pack for the morning. Only reason why I may keep it and ditch the foot print. It's nice having space for gear.

It really just depends on the conditions you expect and your tolerance for potential failure.
I can tell you having a sturdy text in bad weather is comforting.
And failure sucks.

If a text failing and walking out and possibly not completing your hunt is except able for you cool.

For me I want gear that works without question and I don’t have to think about it.

I’m there to hunt, not mess w gea, or potentially quit early because of failure.

I have been in some really bad conditions in BA tents. For the average person they are great. This Aug I took a BA to Kodiak and it did great. I probably wouldn't take it in Nov I do have a couple of Hillbergs but honestly, they aren't needed 90% of the time. All that being said if you use a BA a lot, they will start to show wear, my Hilberg I use most of the time still looks brand new after quite a few nights on the mountain.

Been very happy with my BA tents. They are way lighter and perfect for most of the time. If you hunting late season mostly then i would get with the Hilleberg

Big Agnes is an over priced early season tent that’s not much different than most other backpacking tents.
Nothing special and works fine for most people backpacking.
I had a cs2 and cs3 and sold after zippers falled quickly.
Bought a xmid 1 and its 4 times the quality.
Sold it but will pick up a xmid 2 or the pro.
Have a mountain star now and it’s way better built than a big agnes but still has limitations.
Used an old eureka for 10 years thats built like a big agnes but was a better tent other than being heavier.
