Let them hear about it

Yeah I've heard of that, I thought it was interesting when unknown said in their podcast that they don't feel comfortable doing business that way, yet capitol appears to stock reapers and OG 6.5.

I've done quite a bit of business on silencershop and don't do anything in person until I go to the dealer to pick up the suppressor. The more purchasing options the better!

I checked out the podcast to listen in about the suppressors and heard that too. I thought they went on to explain that Capital can do it because they have FFL's in all states but Unknown does not. I have always used a local dealer for transfers but the idea of being able to have it shipped right to the house does seem nice.

Capitol probably adds a couple weeks to the process vs an efficiently operating SS kiosk for CLEO notice period? That's if Capitol already has your prints and stuff ready to file. It is nice to never leave your house though. They do charge about $160 to do the transfer for you if you dont buy from capitol.

I've gotten 3 cans through Capitol and they are great to work with.

Bingo

This doesn’t answer the question of why they can’t ship them to your door in Idaho?
I would say that it has to do with the CLEO notification. When I checked out about the Capital process it seemed that was the delay compared to local pickup. Big assumption here and don't know all the ins/outs of FFL licensing but I would think that it is a liability that doesn't make sense for them to take on considering any issues the ATF yanks their FFL and then they aren't manufacturing anymore and out of business.
A firearms dealer I had made a couple of purchases from was no longer coming up and it turns out they had some issues with their logbook and the ATF took their FFL.

Liability is weird too, because there are two proven businesses doing it all across the country (capital and silencer central) with no issue, so just weird nobody else seems to want to do it. Everybody is almost all hush about it like they don’t want to get the guys doing it in trouble. Ha. At times it feels more like an archery shop again where manufactures are making sure their dealers don’t get cut out and won’t sell you product direct.

Maybe I’m naive, but if there was a problem sending them in state with the ATF, don’t you think Capital and Silencer Central would have gotten in trouble by now?

I imagine it is just more work, and they just aren’t willing to do it, which is all well. It’d just be nice if they just said it rather than beating around the bush.

There is nothing illegal about what Capital or Silencer Central does, but it's highly expensive and complex. You need FFL's all over the country, compliance staff, regulate state by state compliance, CLEO notifications, shipping compliance (signature required) along with a lot of complex systems. It's a host of problems for a normal suppressor company. Money, time, and complexity. Things that cause a ton of friction and overhead for a small to medium suppressor shop.

Suppressor companies focus on making suppressors. Distributors focus on distributing.

Makes sense again. Not really asking about going nationwide. Doesn’t make sense for a small shop. I get that.

You already are selling them in your state though. Giving the residents of your home state a perk doesn’t seem too hard. If there is some big hassle to doing it in state, I haven’t been able to find it or find somebody who could actually tell me what that hang up is. Just curious and a little selfish of me more than anything. Lots of great cans coming out of Idaho. It would have saved me a few hundred in SOT transfer fees. Ha.

Just so the OP knows I didn’t totally take over his post, I did send an email to silencershop. It does seem to be the best way to make these widely available.

Oh, we are talking in state?

Only way to do that super efficiently is in person with fingerprint software, photo, and verifying your ID and address with a driver's license to complete the form 4.

Most companies just don't mess with it because friction causes prices to go up in manufacturing. After 7 years in business, I have had to structure things to reduce friction, increase output after losing more money than I care to share. It's the only way you survive with how expensive machinery, payroll, building expenses, marketing, COGS, etc are.

To a consumer, it may look like it's not a big deal. To a manufacturing company, they see reduced work flow, costs rising, and input slowing. The bigger you get, the more that becomes a problem. One customer turns into 10, 50, and so on. Instead of hiring more staff to manufacture, you have to hire more staff to do form 4's all day..thus reducing output, increasing costs, and slowing growth. In a perfect world, you could hire both, but from someone with 16 employees...every person you add is more taxes, more benefits, more workman's comp, and so on.

Doing form 3's improves flow and efficiency compared to doing Form 4's all day. That job is for local FFL dealers and distributors.

I totally get why you are thinking the way you are though.

Just my two cents as someone who manufactures. Sorry for high jacking the thread.
