Leopold vx5 3-15

Caveat emptor

max yardage wasn’t the right wording to use my bad . Just looking to see how people like it and there experiences shooting it out far . Tracking, holding zero etc. I’ve got a brand new one in the box and trying to decide if I want to use it on a new build or if I should go a different route

My experience is that it is a scope with a lot of potential that fails in execution.

Lost the seals on mine within a couple months of use. Not to mention all the problems you'll read about here with zero retention and durability.

Leupold fixed it (had to pay to ship it to them) and I sold it immediately.

I have several Leupold VX6s. They had been solid until I randomly had a scope go blurry after firing a shot a few weeks ago. They did replace the issue quickly under warranty, but my confidence in them is shaken a bit.

I've had one of those for years now. Have a 600yd range nearby, typically I'll dial it throughout the various distances out to 600 and back. It always impresses me! A couple of bull elk and a few deer can't argue with the results.

Mine has been great and I’d buy it again. But i only shoot to 500 yards regularly. Naysayers say what they like, but I did drop my rifle 16 feet out of a tree with no loss of zero at all.

Glad to hear some positive reviews! There’s plenty of negative reviews out there

I love mine have shot to a 1000 with it. Killed many coyotes and deer. I worry about the Leupold tracking and zero retention issues but haven’t had any issues yet. It’s worked for me for 8 plus years.

I am very impressed with the optical quality of mine. It does not have a lot of rounds on it yet, so I can't speak much on the tracking or holding zero. Have it on a fast twist 22-250 tikka.

I have both the 3-15x44 and the 3-15x56 not sure which specific one you are asking about. I really like both of them: optical quality, lightweight, reticle illumination, locking zero stop, side parallax adjustment checks all the boxes I want in a scope. Both are on bolt action 308s, both are firedot reticles. I can't tell a huge difference in the low light capability of the 56 vs the 44 so I'm not sure that the size and weight penalty would be worth it they will both give you the ability to shoot at last legal light in dark woods.

If I was going for a non-durable optic I would rather have the Zeiss conquest v4. Cheaper, better glass, and although the Zeiss also fails drop test I have had good luck so far. Every time I shoot the Zeiss it makes me sad to know the truth about them.

If you are looking to purchase a scope you'd do well to read the scope evaluations on here before you make a purchase as you will save money in the long run.

Went with my buddy on an aoudad hunt on a 400 section private ranch in the Davis Mtn's of West Texas. Rough country, miles and miles of climbing, hiking, riding in a Polaris Ranger, etc. We finally got within range (498 yds) of a huge 34" ram, he dialed is VX5 and sent the 140 accubond on its way. Big ram spun around a few times, went about 15 yds and fell over. Beautifully executed.
