They're having a Labor Day sale. 20% off right now. This is been my favorite tripod I've ever used and it's just a little over 200 bucks. They've got a ton of other models on sale too.

Free shipping on it as well plus the 20%. I’ve used the crap out of mine and for the price and weight, it’s hard to beat the model that @Dioni A linked above.

Keep in mind that I don’t shoot off tripods so can’t comment on it for that use. But for a backpacking tripod for quick setup and very stable glassing this one is really good.

I’m interested in it to replace my 6lb shadow tech gen 1 for coyote hunting. Wonder how stable they are for shooting off of

The 224CT has my eye at $180 ($145 after savings). It's 1lb lighter, but all-around about a foot shorter. Do you find yourself using the 284CT above 40" height (244CT's max without center column) often? This is more than enough height for me to use in a high-kneeling or any uphill shooting. The only use case for the 284CT over the 244CT is the 62" max height (center column extended) for standing and glassing. If so, how stable is it at 62"?

They have a bunch of tripods that are pretty well accepted in the shooting community. You'll have to look them up. My 284 is good enough most the time though.

The 284 is usable at all heights. It's obviously better shorter to the ground but I love that tripod. I have a 224 also. It's an older version that is as tall as the current 284. It's a great tripod also. That's a personal choice whether you need more height or not

Yeah I am currently using one of their heads and have been very happy with it. At $200 this model is quite a bit cheaper than some of their other offerings that seem to be more well known for shooting.

If I was just shooting off of it I would get the 324 model. I have one of those also with the flip lock legs and it holds a 13 lb rifle fine. I think pretty much everything is on sale though.

I think the 284 is a great crossover for what most people like/want for glassing/shooting/packing. It will work for most shooting better than some other tripods.

Overall, center columns make the tripod less stable than the tripods with a fixed apex, which also come with larger legs most of the time.

As a dedicated shooting tripod, I would avoid the center column.

I’m 6’1 and typically shoot standing. The adjustable center posts usually help get the tripod up high enough
The standard inverted leg is high enough for me 6’2” to glass from. It’s far more stable to shoot from in the standing position without the center column.

I use the MH35 style ball head for shooting and glassing. It is better for shooting than the Anvil and p type, IMO. And, it does a really good job glassing. The tension adjustment is good enough to set so I can nudge to move it but still keep the glass from falling over.

One of the biggest benefits I find in use is that the leg extension is always within reach, and it never gets in the dirt and mud to bind. Hated that with prior tripods.

I have been using this one or the prior model that didn’t have the improved angle locks. If you see a “C” model it has the locks that pull out. The “CX” have the lever and is so much better.

The short version wouldn’t work with glassing for most adults, but might for shooting while standing, depending on the position you like.

Here are the two beefy inverted, most stable. The difference was minimal between the one above and the ones below in stability when in seated or kneeling positions. For standing, if I were to buy a tripod I did not carry backpacking, it would be the bigger one.

Also, the bowl makes for quick stable adjustments, but is limited.
