Leica geovid R 10x42

Some fine member of society borrowed my Cabelas meopta binos out of my truck right before season. On a whim, I bought a pair of Leica rangfinding binos. They were on sale from 1500 to 1200. My old rangefinder is a relic from the bush administration so it was time for an upgrade.

Initial thoughts while unboxing at the office were "these seem nice". Got the diopters diled in, good to go.

The real test is in the field. Here i sit in my stand glassing some doe at 180 yds unhappy with these binoculars. The resolution is crap unless you are in the very center of the field of view. The edges are terrible. A spike (maybe) came out at 250. I honestly can't tell if he was a tall spike or a four point. The rangefinder seems nice.

Am I overreacting? Am I just spoiled from the meoptas? Seriously thinking about returning these if I can.

Did you focus them correctly?

I believe so. I've improved things noticeably but twisting the eye cups back in a couple clicks. That definitely improved things. It seems like getting a sweet spot in the focus is a tight window verses binos I've had in the past.

Focusing RF binos is different and more involved than regular binos. As well, Geovid’s tend have a much more specific “SHARP” image point than some others, especially lower end binos. Some like that part because there isn’t much fussing with the knob- spin it until it is in focus and you are done.

The manual lays it out. You need to focus the right diopter adjustment (not the center wheel) for the reticle- cover the left eye. Then you focus the right eye on a defined object (light pole on the horizon for example) using the center wheel. Then close the right eye cup, and adjust the left diopter to left eye focus in the same object. Open both eye cups and now they should be focused for your eyes.
