HI, I am new to this forum and have to say it is a wealth of knowledge for a younger hunter. You guys have built a great community here!

So this year I have decided to buy some high end binos, roughly around the $2000 mark. I have been reading all the posts I can about which ones I think may best suit my needs, like 8x or 10x, should I get a range finding pair and so on.

I have decided against a pair with a built in range finder mainly because I want these to last without issues for a very long time, and I am extremely good at breaking electronics!

In my searches I came across the Leica Duovid, which seems to cover the magnification issue being that it is a 8x and a 12x bino in one. Problem is I have not found any reviews on them or much info at all about these multi power type binos...

They seem like they would be perfect for most hunting situations and just wondering if anyone here has any experience with them or something similar.

Any info or suggestions would help because I want to make sure I don't have any regrets on this high end of a purchase.

Thanks,

Greg.

I don't have the self control to use glasses that zoom. I find that every time I have them I am at full power and wonder later how much I missed because the view was shaky or too narrow.

I find that 8 power glasses address about 99% of my needs, they are really light, and just work exactly for what I want. When the time comes to decide on a stalk or the size/ quality of an animal. I want a spotting scope to make that call.

I wish I had the discipline and self control to use a zoom set of glasses. Just not in my personality to get that to work for me!

Personally I think you can get awesome high end glass for a spotter and field glasses in your budget, or close with Meopta stuff. Best value on the optics market today. Remember too they had been making Zeiss Spotting scopes for them for a few years now as well. Meopta is probably the best game in town for high end glass, construction, and price.

Greg, I have a friend that has just those leicas and has been very happy with them. For me, I've had most of the top shelf glass and came to rest on the swarovski swarovision 10x42's. They are an amazing tool and fit my needs very well. High end optics are a good place to spend your dough, it looks like you're willing to invest, so I'd suggest you handle all the big 3 and see what fits you best. To me, binos are not the place to skimp.

they look super nice.

but, i'd go with a single power personally. at 12 power, you are entering the tripod only zone. 15? gah..you wouldnt get the benefits without a tripod..

and looking at pics..you dont have any real tripod mount options..right?
