I drew a mountain goat tag in Montana this year. I'll be archery hunting and was wondering if the TBR mode of the 1600B would work with the ballistics of an arrow? I like the quality and versatility of the 1600B but my primary usage will be bowhunting. That being said, i also do some long range rifle shooting. My understanding is you select a certain ballistic cart within the range finder, but they were rifle ballistics tables. There's a big difference b/w 300 fps and 3000 fps at distances under 100 yards. Does anyone have experience with this model in steep terrain while archery shooting? Thanks

Congrats on the tag. I'd buy a simpler rangefinder with angle comp and call it good. My head would hurt trying to mix ballistic drops with my pins that kinda does the same thing.

A goat hunt is gonna be awesome!!!!

You remove the "ballistics" from the equation for archery by sighting in at different distances. That 1600B doesn't have functioning TBR under 100 yards anyway. It's a real poor choice for archery.

I prefer the Leupold RX-1000 (or whatever it's called) or the Vortex 1000 for archery.

Neither of them are worth a crap though if you want to shoot long range. For me, the answer is two rangefinders.

I had a Leica 1600B. Poor bowhunting rangefinder for mountain hunting as it won't angle compensate at less than 100 yds as noted above. I traded it back to my Leica dealer for a Leica 1000-R that works fine. It is a tad slow on the reading but has great optics and reads over 1000 yds on trees behind the house. I also have a Leupold RX1000i with TBR and it works great. It is a bit smaller than the Leica and reads out instantly versus what seems like a 2 second delay on the Leica. Optics are inferior to the Leica and it is "only" reliable to 800 yds on trees. I really like the Leupold and use it preferentially to the Leica for bowhunting.
