I cross the border at least 7-8 times a year. When you cross either way your car has a picture of your lisence plate taken. What you are asked goes into a database that both countries use and access, your passport is scanned both sides, they already know how long you were out of the country before they ask or when the last time you visited the country was. Basically questions quickly determine if you are telling the truth or not. Answer questions truthfully and only give information requested. Never had a DUI but would contact CBSA directly and figure it out. I have been asked if I have ever been arrested on the US side several times, Canadians with a criminal record are not allowed entry to the US.

I had a pretty old DUI (31 years) and some other driving infractions from the same time period. I ended up using Canada Border Crossing Services. I reached out to them over 18 months prior to the trip. At the time it was said it takes 6-12 months to process I ended up getting the results when I was on my way to Canada. The people at CBCS were awesome to deal with they did a really nice job. It was the Canadian government that ended up taking that long. There is a ton of work that needs to be done prior so definitely plan for that.
