What do you guys recommend for late season bibs for windy cold days in a tree stand?

Check out the clothing thread. Some discussions going on over there worth reading.

I have about 4 sits in my new FL solitude set with temps from 21-40*. It has been fine but I wouldn’t go much colder without adding some serious layering underneath. I have heard people say they are not wind resistant enough. The Sitka fanatics are a little warmer IMO but very specialized for tree stand hunting. They are windproof too. The sanctuary is warmer still. Sitka incinerator is probably the warmest out there.

I’m in central MO. I’d say around 20 or the high teens is about as cold as it usuallly gets.

I don’t usually hunt in bibs, but I did just buy a $60 pair from Academy Sports (Magellan brand). I wanted a cheap pair because I knew they were going to get trashed up there. The zippers were a little cheap on the legs but they were surprisingly warm and we were around that temp a majority of the time and wet. Good buy if you’re on a budget.

The first lite sanctuary bibs are very warm. I just got done with my northern Minnesota hunt the last few days. I was sitting still in tree stands for 7 hours a day. The temps were really really cold. Below zero Fahrenheit with 15-20 mph winds. The feels like temps were in the high negative teens. I was warm as can be with the sanctuary bibs and jacket.

I like the fanatics and have a pair with some room in them for an uncomphagre pant under....covers a lot of temp range that way. Also the Predator Ambush bibs are very good but not as warm as Fanatic/Sanctuary...I can get them dowm tp pretty low temps with the Uncomphagre under them thou. They have great wind proofing and a very good pocket layout.....lighter and less bulk to pack in.

My 12 year old Cabelas Stand Hunter with windshear may be the warmest one that I own but they are heavy and bulky....probably why they are so warm.

How do the predator bibs fit? I’ve been reading that they run small. Also, in your opinion would you buy the predator bibs new or wait to find a used fanatic for around the same amount of money?

Predators run one size small for me but I like hunting bibs a bit loose..... I would buy a used fanatic which is warmer and run it with a zipper open for a bit warmer temp but the ambush bibs fill a good niche for me. They are really nice and well worth the $ if you find a used pair....I but most of my hunting clothes used.
I am looking for a pair of used ambush bib in Large for winter backpack camping because they are fairly light/packable and I like to stay fairly warm while hanging out around camp.

Midway USA. They have a bib & coat combo that they call " Elk Fork" you can catch them on sale for under a Benji each. Very warm, great DWR. heavy & bulky.

Sitka Incinerator bibs and the Fanatic coat is my go to. My struggle with all bibs is that when I sit they get tight over the knees and loose their loft making my knees my weak point. Also like a puffy pant on underneath them.

Look at ArticShield. I've only had to use them a couple of times. Each time it was near or below zero; 30+ mph sustained winds. No issues staying warm. Light base layer (top and bottom) and ArcticShield jacket and pants and bibs. Did not wear the pants and bibs at the same time; just switched out to test their effectiveness. Both worked well.

These are not for active hunting. I'd wear light clothes until you get to your target location and then put them on.
