I came here to see what people read, I guess. I don’t think I have ever read a book. The closest I have come is clan of the cave bear, and I don’t think I made it half way. Oh I do remember reading death in the long grass. And I believe that is truly the only book I started and finished.

Battle of Long Tan (Danger Close Aussie battle in Vietnam 1966)

Hunting Big Mule Deer, Robby Denning (Great resource of info)

Alone at Dawn (MOH recipient John Chapman USAF)

All three were great reads.

What did you think of alone at dawn. I read it and although I thought it was good I thought that he ended up going into battle not well equipped. Plus he rushed way ahead of everyone. I was a little disappointed in that portion of the book.

Jack Carr - true believer. Outstanding book, written by a hunter and seal, lots of cool Africa hunting mixed in to the spy drama.
Jocko’s - extremely ownership. Trying to be a better person.
Dan Flores - American Serengeti. Very interesting, wish I could go back in time and do some hunting in the Pleistocene.
Have also been reading Brad Thor intermittently, but they all kind of blend together. That is not a slight just the way I read them. He is a very prolific author.

Thank you for my service by Mat Best

Permanent Record by Edward Snowden

Triggered by Don Trump jr

All three really good in there own way. One I would say from the past is Ego is the enemy by Ryan Holiday.

The Taking of K-129, Josh Dean (a true story of the seizure of a sunken and lost Russian sub in 1974)
Last of the Breed, Louis L'Amour (amazing story, I read this one every couple of years)
The Dark Tower series, Stephen King (I am currently reading this series for the 7th time, read it every couple of years)

Give audio books a shot. Audible or the iPhone Books app are both great. I have a 45 minute commute to and from work and listen to a ton of them. I can get an hour and a half of "reading" whether I pick up a book or not.

Lots of similar reading lists in here lol.
All the pretty horses has been on my shelf for a while, I need to dive into it.
A beast the color of winter. With a title like that how could you not want to read it!?

I like to read about history, the classics, technical stuff or self help mostly but I also sprinkle in some enjoyable fiction or fun books to help break up the dense stuff some times.

I’ve always been intrigued by US history, particularly the settlement of the west. My last three books are:
American Buffalo by Steven Rinella
Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynn
The Heart of Everything That is by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin

All three are fantastic books and definitely worth the time.

Loved those first two books and read them twice.
I’ll have to check out your 3rd book.

My own 3rd to his first two I just read is Jim Corbett series.

I liked the book. Chapman’s job and the equipment he carried seemed to be why he was not set up for a long firefight. They should have never been up there in the first place is the biggest thing I took from the story. I know everyone acts different and have their own perception under stress, so no judgement. Enjoyed the read though.

Dennis Wintch (& Lindsay Parker's) book on hunting desert mule deer. Even reviewed it on the blog. Good read for serious mule deer hunters.

And Jay Gates "Bucks I Have Taken"

And Ryan Hatfields "Idaho's Greatest Mule Deer".

I know, I'm bad. But I do read the Bible most days, so I'm not that bad.

My 3 most recent reads:

• Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare by Gareth Porter
Counters the popular narrative about Iran's nuclear weapon ambitions.

• Bendigo Shafter by Louis L'amour
Fictional account of pioneers founding a town in Wyoming in the mid 1800s. Not my favorite L'amour book but enjoyable nonetheless.

One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey by Sam Keith
Factual account of Dick Proenneke's first two years living alone in a hand-built cabin.

Final Frontiersman~ a biography about Heimo Korth
A Sand County Almanac

I need to read more. It seems like a only read a few books a year. Time to make it a priority as I enjoy it.
