I did something I don’t normally do. Also ignored advice from several people.

On Friday Jan 21 I saw an Instagram post from an Outfitter I follow. Had a short notice spot for free range Desert Sheep in Sonora. Don’t know the company at all but pinged him. After a bit of back and forth decided it might be worth considering. Asked for references from all of this years hunters.

Saturday he sent me the references. Very first reference was from an area code I’m familiar with. Turned out to be a guy I met a year ago as a complete coincidence in Reno at my first Wild Sheep Show. Met him at a banquet attended by about 1800 people and somehow the two of us sat down by one another and it turned out he lived 20 minutes from me. Probably only one a a few folks from NE at the show.

So for a second time, we coincidentally run into each other again when I called him to ask about his experience with the outfitter. From there I signed the booking agreement Sunday, paid on Monday, booked flights and arrived in Mexico Thursday.

Ignored advice I’d had from others about needing to take a guide with me to Mexico to represent me, etc. Also ignored my own conservative nature. Sometimes I guy gets lucky. Fantastic crew and experience.

It was a whirlwind over the last few days. Will never forget it though.
