Large or small primer cases for 6.5 creed?

Just got a 6.5 cm. Going to order some lapua brass wonder what you guys like best lrg or sm? Most likely going with the 130 tmk and h4350. This will be for plinking, yotes and whitetail.

I have only used LRP and never had an issue

If I did it again I would go SRP since there seem to be no drawbacks. Theoretically longer brass life, supposedly better SD/ES, and slightly cheaper primers.

It is really not a big deal either way

I have been using peterson SRP 6.5cm brass down to 15F with no problems using h4350 and cci 400 primer

Srp should be fine but I would recommend a magnum primer. Not saying a regular one won't work as above poster has been using them but a magnum would give you a little insurance and can handle a little higher pressure.

Some firing pins are a bit fat for SRPs -- worth checking before you commit.

I've got about 500 rds (or so) on Peterson SRP brass with CCI 400's. I shoot a lot in the winter and coldest I shot was just below 0F, no issues.

I think where guys run into issues is using the slower burning powders and 46+ grain loads. I'm shooting H4350 and IMR4350 @ 41 and 41.5gr respectively and have no issues. I think I'm on my 6th reload now and the brass looks fine, pockets still tight and groups are great.

But if you already have bricks of LRP’s, they work just fine too.

ya I have probably fire 5k rounds of 6.5cm SRP peterson brass using CCI400 primers with no problems

Thanks for pointing that out, about the compressed loads. I'm wanting to try RL23 this winter to see if I can get enough more speed than RL16 to justify switching. Before I actually bought the rifle I had thought about trying VV N565 but I gave up on that when I actually saw how hard it would be to stuff enough of it in the case.

I honestly need to get some SRP brass because I have more spare small rifle primers on hand than large.

Small sample size, but I’ve been using Starline SRP brass with 130 Gamechangers, H4350, and CCI 450’s with success.

I have 500 pieces of SRP for my target gun and 200 pieces of LRP for my hunting gun. Both are serving me well.

I always see people say that SRP are unreliable in cold temps. But I have never experienced anything bad. My consistency is the same between them but maybe that’s my little chargemaster holding me back from better SD/ES. My ES are 15-30 depending on the day so I won’t complain.

That's why I went SRP. A guy could buy CCI 400s damn near all the way thru COVID. LRP....not so much. Not to mention the cost difference

If you're going to be shooting in very cold temps, like single digits to negatives, I'd suggest LRP. If SRP is a must in cold weather, my suggestion would be Alpha with SRP as they use large flash hole spec in all brass. Lapua and Peterson use small flash hole in small primer config.

These are my suggestions on the fact I've experienced a hang fires with lapua srp creed brass in very cold weather using slower burning powders. Have not experienced that with Alpha. I use only CCI 450 primers in everything srp.
