I just received a new pair of the L&S Lowa Cevedale tech-light hunters. Walking with out any weight they felt fine. As soon as a threw a 50lb pack on my back I felt an incredible amount of pressure on the bottom outside edge of my foot, and more so near the center of my foot. Do I need to put more miles on them to loosen them up or Do I need a new insole?. Has anyone had this issue? If so what did you do to correct it? I've got the l & s synergy beds in them right now.

I had this issue, but it sounds like to a lesser degree then you do. I have 55+ miles on them at this point and they feel great...

I'm not a boot expert though, I'd call Steve at Lathrop and see what he says.

I had the same issue, call Steve and go over it with him.

My foot has an unusually wide spot in the area you are describing with a relatively normal rest of the foot. Steve sent me out some Lowa Ticam's to try out and they feel much better, and have the same lacing system. The Tech Lites cut back real hard right in that spot, I think that was part of the weight saving process. I couldn't find it but somewhere on the internet is a pic of them upside down next to some Tibets, once you see the difference in the curvature of the soles you will realize why your feet hurt. Another thing, in my opinion the lacing system on those are so good you can overtighten them, especially lower down towards the tow box. Just cause you can tighten em so much doesn't mean you have too.

I didn't have any issue in the toe box. Just a lot of pressure in the area specified. What are the lows ticam's?

I had the same issue with mine but they were a little tight in the length so I got a half size bigger and haven't noticed the issue but I only have a couple miles on them

My Tibets hurt my foot in the same spot, just the right one. I have put several miles on them to no avail. I am going to try a different insole just to see what happens.

My Tibets hurt in the same spot on my right foot only. I got creative and took a heat gun to the rand and it helped relieve pressure. Took a few times but it did work for me.

JPEASTON I had pain there and all the way back to the ball of the foot, but the pain concentrated on the outside edge of my foot never into the center ball of my foot. There was pressure in both feet but the most intense pain was in my right foot.

JASON SNYDER I think you're right. The length is good.. I was desperately hoping these boots would be the ticket.

Centennial ELK what insole are you going to try?

SHAUN will taking a heat gun to the rand compromise the water tight seal on them?

Talked to l&s and they said the boot is too narrow. I'm sending it to them to get them custom molded to my feet.

Interesting. So just slightly too narrow but not warranting an actual "wide" boot? I kind of have a similar issue so I will be following this thread. Did they say how they are going to custom mold them?

Man this is crazy. I just bought Tibets. I generally wear a size 13. Was told to go half size bigger. Since they don't make a 13 1/2 I bought a 14. I have the same side pressure on my left foot that everyone is speaking of. I have never ordered wide in anything and now these are a whole size larger and feel to narrow. Next problem was insoles. I wear New Balance insoles in my shoes but decided to try the Lathrop's since so many people rave about them. They reall didn't impress me at all. Could be because I needed more volume in this boot but also I have decent arch height and these aren't compatible with that. The third thing I tried was placing the Lathrop on top of the factory insole and I liked that ok but still not as much as the New Balance ones. Sux to pay $90 for insoles and not like them. If someone has a good idea for stretching the width of the left boot please let me know. Maybe with more break in time it will improve the fit. Oh and if someone is interested in a pair of Lathrop and Son's insoles for like $50 tyd. Right now they are cut to size 14. Have maybe two days on them. Let me know.

They said to mark the hot spots with tape. Then take a picture of the top of my foot and trace my foot onto a piece of paper. I then have to send everything to l&s and they said they would be able to shape the boot a bit to conform to my foot better. I'm guessing they use a little heat to shape them, but not sure.

Each brand of boot likely has it's own unique last that it is built on. I have found Lowas to be one of the narrower lasts out there. That is why they are too narrow for some of you folks. You need to find a boot made on a last that fits your foot, plain and simple.

Also, different boots within the same brand may be built on different lasts also.

Honestly rather than taking a heat gun to a boot or other such things, if they don't fit well out of the box then send them back. Life is too short to "make" a boot fit. Just cause a boot is awesome for someone (I really like my Cevedale tech light hunters) doesn't mean they are the boot for your feet. Nothing wrong with that, just get what works for you!

Hey Luke,
I completely agree with you, but i purchased the boots from another member off rokslide whom the boots didn't fit. He said they were too big. I don't have the option of sending them back, so was trying to run through my options. I've owned lowas before and they fit me like a glove. I guess I was just expecting the same out of these. I got them with the tags still on them so I wasn't sure what to expect and whether they just took some time to break in. I've not bought a lot of high end hunting boots so didnt really know what to expect. I'm sure you've gone through your fair share of boots. How do you know when you've found a boot that fits you perfectly, and whats the heaviest boot you are willing to pack out with for early season elk hunting?
