how do these two compare. I have heard the Chugach is a great rain jacket. but is it worth the extra $100 for it vs the Teton jacket?

I've spent ALL day in the chugach, pouring rain, hiking the mountains and have been really impressed with that jacket.

I think it depends on how much you hunt, how often you end up in the rain, how active you are, and how tough you are on your gear to make the decision on what's better.

Rain gear without pit zips in the mountains is miserable.

I have the chugach jacket. I was thinking Teton pants maybe? I normally don't wear rain pants. So maybe cheaper would be good

I bought the Teton pants and was very impressed with them. When you first get them they seem very thin, but I trudged through snow and rain for 4 days straight in CO in Oct wearing them over the attack pants and stayed perfectly dry. They also pack down very small and weigh next to nothing. Have also heard very good stuff about chugach jacket and would probably buy that jacket if I was buying a rain jacket. I have a surplus marine corps gortex shell that I used when I was in and is bulletproof and about $150 new on eBay.

Is the fabric "swishy"? I have the Yukon set and I'm very impressed with how quiet it is. I'm wondering if these are the same.

For rain gear I thought the Teton pants were fairly quiet (much quieter than non-hunting rain pants) but I don't have much to compare them to.

I actually want to try the Teton jacket, weight wise it is much closer to contemporary outdoor raingear. I have the Chugach and it's okay except for the pit zips and pockets. Pit zips are pretty much useless for ventilation and they pale in comparison to dual purpose chest ventilation pockets like you find on the military rain jackets and wind breaker. Not only does it take two hands to close pit zips, but they serve no other purpose besides ventilating poorly because your arm is in the way. Dual purpose long slash pockets on the torso ventilate better and are more functional. The pockets on the Chugach are just pockets that have the potential to hold water and not contribute what so ever to ventilation because the inner pocket material is waterproof. ymmv.

As far as quiet, the Chugach is fine for rifle hunting. I don't think I could get to full draw within 40 yards on a quiet morning with out getting busted. Unless of course it was raining hard. Yea, I have worn the jacket when it wasn't raining hard. Back when I was young I would of just suffered, but now I can relax and be comfortable hunting with out feeling guilty. It is much more comfortable then my firstlite jacket and it is the quietest raingear I own, so I'm not complaining about the noise one bit.

Go for the Chugach, venting zips are a necessity if you have to make a hard push with raingear on.

I have had the chucach for 4 years and have zero complaints other than its a little heavy for packing if there's not a high chance of rain. I was going to pick up the ultra nx because of its weight but didn't want to drop $600 on rain gear I hope to not use so I got the teton. Packs really small and weighs even less. It's not fancy but it did keep me dry when I got caught in a snowy/slushy day in ID this year.
