For full disclosure I've read what I could on here regarding Kuiu tents and am familiar with BSI (Big Sky International) posts claiming design theft. There were only two posts from BSI and honestly wished they would have elaborated on the topic and addressed the customer service issues that seem to plague them. Similarly I know that Kuiu has fallen out of favor with many members here and hope to put that aside and just look at the Mountain Star 2P tent itself.

Having said all that; I'm interested in the tent and am really attached to the external pole design. I cannot find similar tents with similar specs. I will say that I have a BA Fly Creek UL2 and enjoy it but question its durability. I have had the Fly Creek on the trails here in the east and in Utah and it has performed admirably but I have my doubts.

So folks that own(ed) it, use(d) it, tested it or have had their hands on it. Please tell me about it! Tell me about its sizing (I notice it is 5 inches shorter than the BSI). Weight (does it come in as spec'd?) Setup and of course durability (specifically floor). My understanding is the leaking issue was addressed.

Thanks for your help..

I have the mountain star. Used it a few times sheep hunting this fall. Very easy to set up and weighed what it was advervised. i only had a little rain so it really did not get "tested", I am very happy with it.

The Kuiu tent on the recent Chugach sheep hunt on the blog (kuiu) looks much beefier than the mountainstar on there website, fly to the ground, much sturdier looking pole sleeves etc. I think there is a new model/version pending.

Thank you both for the replies. Any link to pending model?

I called and asked about it. Of course they didn't have any information on it and when it might be released. They mentioned it could be a test model or something that might not even make it to production. I'm guessing this could be the next iteration of the 2P. So I really really like the external pole design and would probably prefer the 3 pole over the 2.5 pole design. Having said that and not knowing if another 30% sale is coming between now and next fall, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I heard the tent is only available to card-carrying fanboys with over 10,000 posts on the Kuiu forum who have no disciplinary actions from the Moderators and know the secret handshake. Preorder required, allow 2 to 4 years for delivery.

lets keep this about the tent. by this time, everyone is aware that by ordering something that is not currently in stock, right at the moment, you may never actually see it.

I realize they aren't a sponsor anymore and therefore won't be protected by mods, but it is beyond annoying how every thread even mentioning Kuiu is always attempted to be derailed by the same two guys... every.... single... time...

As for the tent, I've seen one in person but have no field use with it. I so far have preferred the floorless option of my Kifaru Supertarp for 90% of hunts and hikes. I'm contemplating biting the bullet again for a fully enclosed pup tent for sheep hunting, but since that's one week out of the year each fall, not sure if it's worth the investment just to have a floor in the rocks.

I agree. Its one thing to bs on some bs threads like the one that got locked. In fact I find it amusing how easily shrek can get under some guys skin.

Its completely unnecessary to crap on every thread were guys want to legitimately discuss a product.

Well said. Honestly I have used quite a few Kuiu products and most are actually quite good. I find it funny the same people chime in to crap on a legit discussions about some of their product only to crap on the thread even though they have absolutely zero experience about a given product. We get it you don't like their brand of stuff, but give it a rest unless you have some actually insight to add and enlighten. But the bashing just to bash gets old.

If you have no experience with the product or wish to learn about it then I think the following applies:

Ah, what do you know?

I had some beers at the brewery tonight actually and was wondering how things were going in the land of dreams.
