I'm a whitetail hunter in IL. I've been eyeing the super down haven set for a while now, and it's looking especially appealing as we get into some colder temperatures. For those of you that own/have owned it, is it worth it? I've used the Sitka Fanatic set and I'm curious how it compares to that?

Does it matter? Not in stock until July 2026!

Ok, just got a jacket the other day. Have to do some field testing. Bibs aren’t in stock, not taking it out on you but mostly sold out.

Edit to add: I own quite a few down jackets and insulating layers.

Kuiu does not provide the amount of down fill in either the jacket or bibs. The jacket is not as stuffed with down as the Skre Guardian or Feathered Friends Helios, for sure.

In a quick comparison to other puffy jackets:

More fill than the First Lite Brooks Down Sweater (3.5 oz)
More fill than the Black Ovis Anchor Point. (4.2 oz)

Seems to be most similar to the Stone Glacier Grumman. (5.3 oz).

Less fill than the Feathered Friends Helios (7.4 oz)
Less fill than the Rab Neutrino Pro (7.5 oz)
Less fill than the First Lite Chamberlin (11 oz fill, 80/20 mix of 800 fill down and 37.5 synthetic)
Less fill than the Skre Guardian (11.4 oz)

Bow or gun hunting and what temps would you use it in. I don’t have the Haven but have used the Burner parka a bit this season when the temps were under 20 and I have been impressed with it. Very light and warm. I paired it with Fanatic bibs. The downside is it is crinkly loud so you could not bow hunt in it. My guess is the Haven set is equivalent to the Fanatic but lighter.

There are likely different fill amounts of down between the two so I’m not sure that is a valid comparison. Kuiu does not list the amount of fill in the super down haven jacket or bibs.

I don't think the the Haven is in the same league with the Burner or even the Skre Guardian when it comes to warmth but that does not mean it isn't a good piece of gear. The Fanatic is not anywhere near as warm as the Burner either but I wear it all the time. It just depends on the conditions.

I have 2 seasons on the super down haven jacket. I like it more everytime I wear it, and I use it a lot between whitetail stand hunting and thermal predator hunting. I can't compare it to other high end down whitetail jackets, but it's warmer than any other jacket I own. Face fabric is quiet and there isn't any loud shells inside so you can move without making any more noise than a standard fleece jacket. Wrist seals, the extra down baffle that goes around the back of my neck and the low draw cord makes an incredible seal, enough that when you lean against something it pushes the jacket away from my chest from the air pressure. The warmth and comfort really is unlike any jacket I've used. I don't put any heat packs into the jacket unless it's under 20 and I'm gonna be on stand for more than a few hours and all I wear under it is a t shirt. Pockets are mostly well designed. The front chest pockets are roomy and easy to access. Only complaint I have with the pockets is that the lower heat pack pockets are too low for me, they end up below my pants/bibs. Maybe that's how they were designed and I don't understand them, idk. But the upper heat pack pockets on the chest are perfect. Also other interior pockets to drop heat packs so not a big deal.

I pair it with the proximity pants as I think the haven bibs would be too warm to move around in.

That was kind of a ramble but to sum it up, I bought the jacket fully expecting to have buyers remorse and return it after a trial, but I'd buy it again for twice the price. I really don't think there's another jacket in its league for warmth/weight/quietness, could be wrong.

I really feel like the air tight seal you get makes up for a lot of extra down fill. Interested to hear if anyone that has spent static time in really cold weather is aware of a jacket that out performs it.
