Kuiu sold?

I am positive the lifestyle gig will be a major part of these types of companies. I have seen middle-aged moms in Ketchum walking around in Kuiu shirts and black First Lite jackets adorn countless folks walking around town.
Seeing First lite in Ketchum is crazy, that's why I'm always wearing Kuiu.

While I hate to see this stuff happen if a guy researched every product they buy and every company that owns them and didn’t buy their product because of who they are and support, a guy wouldn’t have much lol.
This phone I’m on was produced in china I’m sure and they are pretty big in the communist game I hear 😂

This is not about mfg sourcing. This is about the head of the company his actions in MT and spewing the liberal garbage in the news paper. Just google Mike Luckovich editorial cartoons. Take a look at how he trashes and demeans the current administration. Andrew Morse is the President of the AJC and was with CNN for 9 years prior to joining Cox. Just know where your dollars are going and make your own choice. I am done with them

I think the point he was making is not solely related to sourcing. The Chinese enslave and kill people. I’m not a fan of the AJC (it sucks) or any of the things you correctly note. But (at least for me) those things do not define that company or the family. They also have done good things.

But in a scale of horrible things companies or their owners (including governments) do - for me killing is worse.

And yet I’m still typing on my iPhone that has enriched the Chinese government, at least in part.

That’s fine…..my point is know where your money is going. If you are concerned about China then don’t support them. Choices can be limited on phones but there are a lot of outdoor clothing companies. Of course not all the products they offer are USA made so that’s a paradox. I doubt many hunters would support a company that Nancy Pelosi owned regardless of where products were made. That’s COX

kuiu was over when they stopped to produce in canada and when they explained it was make the cost or price were to avoid skyrocketting as we can say the rest is history.

I feel KUIU has not maintained Jason's vision of the company in the least bit
I belive his quote was something like 'i dont make clothing for fat people or women; they dont know how to hunt'

yeah, I think that vision was rejected a long time ago.

I love the wild digressions here, it’s always a very entertaining read when the politics get involved.

Anyway, I was curious about all the talk of the deteriorating quality of KUIU over the last few years. I honestly haven’t seen it. I first bought from KUIU in 2013 and probably buy 2-3 things from them per season, from packs to jackets to gloves to tents. Quite a few of those purchases recently are re-buys because I lost or destroyed (my own fault, not the gear) the piece of clothing in question. Each time I’ve gotten the latest edition of a particular piece, I’ve been impressed with upgrades to the material, waterproofing, longevity, etc. The early stuff was lightweight but often got shredded by brush. Once I complained to customer service about lack durability for some puffy insulated pants, I got a refund and one of the clothing designers called me back on a weekend and told me that my input was appreciated and that the piece in question was being redesigned. Damn, good enough for me. I bought them when the new version came out. More recent stuff has done a great job of balancing weight and durability. I’m not interested in saving 6 ounces on my jacket if I have to buy one every 3 years bc it gets shredded by oak brush. I’ll be brave and hike in that extra 6 ounces.

I think some of the comments that are in the vein of “it was originally for sheep/goat hunters and everything since the first 5 years is shit” are categorically incorrect. For the rest of us elk and mule deer hunters who haven’t drawn out our 25-30 year goat tag or don’t have $40,000 for a banquet sheep tag, KUIU has done some great things for hunting clothing and I hope it continues to do so. You simply can’t build a business off apparel for sheep and goat hunters, there are simply not enough of those fine folks to make a market. It’s always been for all hunters who want good gear, with a particular focus on western style mountain hunting.

I chuckle and put a penny in the penny jar every time I hear someone say: “this or that brand is going down the tubes because of XY&Z, and I’m going back to Kings camo!” Those sorts of posts usually aren’t backed up with any evidence whatsoever. Or if any evidence is cited, it’s usually something to the tune of: “a zipper broke on my new KUIU jacket, never going to buy from them again!” FYI KUIU uses YKK zippers, which 40% of American apparel uses and are considered the best. Sometimes they break, at times for no good reason. Zippers are an imperfect solution to a devilish design problem. Chin up, fill out a return/exchange form and this too shall pass.

Too Long Didn’t Read: the quality of KUIU is just fine, I hope this change in ownership from one private equity firm to another private equity firm won’t change that. Please go back to Kings Camo if you want to, save $100 on your jacket, and be at risk of hypothermia because it’s made of cotton. Or go back to Sitka and spend $100 more on your jacket and have it be worse than KUIU’s version. Thanks for reading!

My Sitka gear outlasts Kuiu. Kuiu cuts corners and the only time I bought this past season was when it on sale. Kuiu and Cox will never get my business again. Just got a Sitka Jetstream jacket…..and I didn’t have to exchange 3 times to get the right fit.
