I need to get a new down sleeping bag for backpack hunting. I'm leaning towards a Western Mountaineering bag, but would be interested in hearing reviews from anyone who owns a kuiu bag. Can't seem to find many independent reviews on these bags.

I don't believe that Kuiu makes their own bag, just a rebadged bag from another company. Find out who makes the original, and I'll bet it's cheaper without the Kuiu tag on it.

I love my kuiu bag so far. Hasbt had alot of use so far but the nights i have had in it i have been very comfortable. I bought the 15 degree bag and it packs down to stuff all. Plus its under 1kg which is lighter then my 35 degree Kathmandu bag.

WM are as good as they get. I own one and love it. My dad owned several and I still have his stuff sacks from 40 years ago.

I have both the 0 degree and 15 degree Kuiu bags. Very happy with them and they perform as advertised in terms of temp rating and moisture management. As mentioned they pack down to sweet F all. They are based on the Marmot Plasma bags, but they have a little more shoulder room. They have a bit of stretch to them so I don't feel as constrained. I have about 5-6 weeks of use in my 0 degree bag and seriously cold conditions and based on its performance, I bought the 15 degree bag for more general applications.

WM bags are good too, but always i see them less forgiving. Their GWS shells don't breath well and and seem harder to stuff. They were on my short list, but didn't have the updated features as some of the newer bags on the market. Also look at Feathered Friends, as they are highly rated as well.

Lots of Kuiu haters on here, but I have no problem recommending their sleeping bags as a legit piece of kit.

Might also take a look at Mountain Hardwear's bags. I've been using one of theirs the past couple years and I really like it.

Marmot, Mt Hardwear, WM, even inexpensive keltys will get you more or less the same for less money when you can find them on steepandcheap theclymb sierra trading post and the other 30 sites that sell last years gear at 30 to 50% of.

If you want the kuiu then get it, it will probably be a good bag but if you look at fill power, fill weight, construction, etc then you can probably get the same outcome at half the cost.

I currently have a mt hardware lamina cheap kelty and marmot never summer i just picked up. They all work when used as intended and other than weighing any extra lb or more dont have much downside. All were bought under 200

I just bought the 0* kuiu. They are having a 25% off sale with free shipping right now, and it was in stock. I have read mostly good reviews on them, and have a friend who guides sheep in AK that uses one.

I bought the kuiu bag last thanksgiving during the sale. I sent it back right away, I was not impressed with the stretch or the fabric. I bought a Montbell downhugger and feel like it is a much better bag.

I bought the tall 15 degree Kuiu bag a while back. It was nice, seemed to be well made and light, but was just to constricting for me. For reference I', 6'-4" and 220 pounds.

The Kuiu 0* was incredibly warm for me last fall. My truck said -6* and I slept like a baby, in a tent, of course. In regards to what someone said above, I think it's a bit of a stretch to think you can get a legit 0* bag at 2 1/2 lbs. for half the price of a Kuiu. Just not happening. WM makes amazing bags, no doubt. I've owned two. Just saying that the Kuiu bag is a very legitimate offering on a high end bag. Weight, quality, warmth, hood and baffle design. It's all there.

The KUIU sleeping bags are not sourced through another company. I replaced my Marmot 15 degree down for a KUIU one and love it.

I also have the kuiu 15 and 30 degree bags. aside from zipper snags i have had no complaints. the 15 degree kept me plenty warm last Nov on the late elk hunt. the temp was well under 20 degrees and i was never cold. keep in mind I'm a warm sleeper.

I went through this a few years back. I'm a very cold sleeper and about froze to death on a trip a few years ago. I had an older North Face bag that I think was rated around 30 and it got down in the single digits. After that I did a ton of research on bags. I was looking at warmth factor and weight. I went in completely unbiased and narrowed it down to WM and Kuiu. Kuiu won out due to the treated down. WM bags are super nice and I'm sure perform great as well. I bought the 0 Kuiu and haven't been cold in a bag since.

I used a WM alpinelite last year and I was very warm and I love the bag. The only problem with the bag I have and and any other bag for that matter is I tend to slide off the 'pad' during the night. I still need to find a way not to slide off the sleeping pad when using the WM bag.

I might be using a BA Lost Ranger bag next year due to that reason, I love the sleeping pad sleeve of the BA bags.

I have a lost ranger 15, with the insulated air core pad, and I will freeze if i don't have base layers on under 25*. It's a very roomy bag, but not warm. Can't wait to try my new kuiu 0* though!
