Hey all, I've scoured the forums and couldn't find a thread comparing these two pieces head to head. I know they are both really well liked, and I'm in the market for a new mid layer as I take a new approach with my clothing system this year.
A bit of background: I run really really warm and many times have no issue hiking into the 20's with just a t-shirt if I'm working hard. Last year I ran a light merino base layer, sometimes a heavier merino hoodie (Black Ovis Keele) or QZ fleece, and then the Skre hardscrabble softshell over top. This year Id like to simplify (and lighten) my system by going with the same light merino base layer and then the Kuiu Chugach as my brush-busting rain/outer layer (if needed) and a FL Uncompahgre for sitting/glassing. That leaves the question...what mid layer?
From the research I've done, the Sitka heavyweight hoodie and the KUIU Peloton 240 seem like good options. Given I run so warm, I foresee being able to use both as outer layers if the weather isn't too cold/rainy but would also serve the purpose of an additional layer under the Chugach if needed. I like that they are both Synthetic to move moisture from the merino base layer and are both relatively lightweight (~15oz).
The pro's I see for the Peloton are its more wind resistance and maybe a bit more capable as an outer layer. I like that the heavyweight hoody comes in the dirt color, which I could wear around town casually (the peloton comes in a dark green but I have so many other clothes in the same color, I'd end up looking like a Christmas tree). From those who have experience with both am I missing anything? Is one noticeably warmer than the other? Is one noticeably more breathable?
Appreciate the help.
