Kuiu got some stank sheep. My FL stuff is good. I remember wearing my Chamy for 4 days then taking a whiff after we got home and had showered. The funk was all me.

True story. Shoved it in my bothers face and said “smell this schit!!” He freaked out cause we were both funky. Then was like “hmm it doesn’t smell at all”

Too friggin funny.

Specifically the 145 zip T.

I bought one of these shirts before a recent hunt, I washed it 3 times then went on a backpack hunt and every time I sweat the shirt had a pungent wet dog smell, so bad even my friend asked me to walk behind him so he didn't have to smell it, I didn't have a choice because this was the only base layer shirt I had with me so I just had to deal with it.

So I called Kuiu and asked the Rep if they have ever heard of this bad smell issue and the guy said that he had not, after a bit he finally offered a to send me a return label and that he and his warranty person will look into the issue with the shirt and then get in touch with me.

After the call I did some searches and found quite a few bad smell reviews so I don't see how this Rep has never heard of the bad smell issue, I surely would have preferred him to be straight up with me and say that some garments do have a strong odor and some aren't as bad.

Who has had the smell issue with Kuiu and who hasn't? I am not sure if I want them to send me a different shirt or just get a refund.

My only merino I have from Kuiu is the neck gaiter and I have never had an issue with it having a bad odor and have had it around my neck for many days.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I just purchased a lot of Kuiu merino/tiburan/peloton gear and used it on a recent hunt. I didn't notice any smells with it, but I will be watching it now and bringing spare clothes just in case. Good luck out there!

Just buy the first lite merino. I have never had any issues with the $100s I have spend on their merino outside of normal pilling.

Just got back from first hunt with Kuiu merino. 5 solid days in the mountains and smell was minimal. My buddy had First Lite and had no complaints either.
They both seemed to pick up a little sulpher smell when washed in the creek but not bad.

I don't feel like I have noticed an odor issue with my kuiu 1/4 zip. That being said, I am starting to like synthetics better every year.

merino smells like a wet dog when it’s wet no matter who produced the garment. I’d say my FL Chama is the worst for this due to I’m guessing more merino in a heavier garment. I agree with the post above & am starting to like the synthetics over merino.

When wet, I've had merino that smelled like the sewer backed up in the washing machine, I've had some that smelled like a chemical factory, I've had some that smelled like a wet sheep, and I've had some that didn't smell at all. My problem is that my sense of smell is so strong, that those smells overwhelm me as soon as I start to sweat (which is pretty quick when hunting). KUIU was the worst for me regardless of color or pattern, then camo from everyone else, and some solids from some companies. I have a merino shirt from Cabela's that I've had since probably 2008 and it doesn't smell at all when wet these days, but it's also on its last legs.
