Hi!

So needing some packable, but high durability rain clothing. Been comparing the Stone Glacier M5 and the Kuiu Kutanas. Read about every forum post..

Happy Kuiu user, but the m5 also ticks my boxes. It also seem very silent, which I appreciate alot. (Yukon is too heavy for me..)

Hva anyone compared the two, especially on the noise part?

Fyi, ordering both is out of the question because I am a international customer and returns are very expensive.

This is kind of a strange question. Quiet rain gear sucks. It means that it has a soft hand to the outermost layer, which in turn wets out really fast.

M5 is one of the quietest rain gear around.. and guess what, it wets out incredibly fast, which eliminates its breathability and leads to eventual water intrusion.

If you want rain gear that performs as intended, it needs to have a harder nylon outer fabric that isn’t designed around being quiet.

My M5 do not in any way qualify as quiet. Surprising that they rate as among the quietest but I don’t have a wide range of experience with that metric since I’m in the relatively dry rocky mtns. Nevertheless every piece of rain gear I have ever had tended to wet out rapidly with use and wear. The better question is which can wet out and remain waterproof. Often you’re sweating enough that is hard to tell. For sure heavier duty tends to be more waterproof for longer and may or may not be “quiet.” It’s a relative metric. I have an 8 year old Outdoor Research Gore tex Pro shell that is still waterproof despite hard use year round.
