Kuiu.... hmmmm

So, James Kennedy, the current chair of Cox Enterprises, a massive conglomerate that owns a ton of smaller companies, including Kuiu, attempted to block public access to land in Montana due to a private/public dispute, and now we all need to get outraged and boycott Kuiu?

I’ll pass on the boycott. There are simply more important things to worry about in life.

Why don’t ya’ll go through your house and examine every brand you own and like and then research every board member of both that brand, as well as their parent company, see what ya find.

The problem was it wasn't private... he took it all the way to the state Supreme Court.

Sorry, I wasn’t arguing the semantics of his personal case (nor did I mean to put in incorrect details), my point was I don’t care what the chair of a conglomerate does, that just happens to own a smaller company that has it’s own founder and staff.

The bigger point being that you could go down this road for almost every brand and company in some way.

Except this guy is in the top 10 anti public access figures of the west in the last decade. He’s in the company of Fred Eshelman, the Wilkes brothers and the Utah congressmen/Senators in taking big swings at public access in the courts or legislature.

The idea that a former DU president who has a long history of throwing his weight and money around to get his way within the conservation space wasn’t influential in his family’s company decision to shift from their 125 year history of owning media to now include a hunting company is silly.

Yeah there’s other companies out there who do things I don’t agree with. Some of them I patronize (usually because I don’t know about the things they do), and most I don’t.

When there’s other companies out there who make just as good of products who aren’t going to turn around and use that money to fight against what I believe in (as is the case here), why wouldn’t I go a different direction?

As I mentioned in another post on this topic. You cannot fight every thing and boycott it, as many have stated that we use every day things that support messed up things. However, you can choose to boycott or fight what is held close to most of the public land and fishing communities, which is access to the land and water. If Montana was to lose that fight and have a billionaire overturn a public easement it would continue down the line and they would try and close easements we use for access to NF etc. (Already happening). I am sure once those got taken away we all would be on Rokslide complaining how crowded the one trailhead was.

Seems like a constant barrage of new products, it looks like Kuiu is on the glide path to cheaper mass market gear and this looks to be the logical progression.

The newest owners certainly don’t make the brand more appealing.
