I recently got a Kuiu guide jacket for a gift. I have always wanted one for the late season hunts here in NV. It is a lot thinner of a jacket than I expected…
Have any of u guys ran a guide jacket?
What kind of weather have u used it in?
How warm did it keep you?

I've used it the last two years. By itself it isn't very warm, but it's designed as part of a layering system and works well like that. Normally for me it's a merino base layer or two, puffy, then guide. I've worn that when it's snowing and been fine. Not as warm as my wool setups but a whole lot lighter.

I think LazyV is dead on. Merino base layer(s), a spindrift pullover and the jacket, and you're gtg. In a heavy rain, you'll need your raingear. Light rain or drizzle it will handle just fine.

I wore mine with 2 layers of Kuiu merino this June in Canada. Not what you are expecting..... 40º & rained 14" in 2 days, I spent both of them sat in a treestand. I got wet, but I did stay warm. The only parts of me that were at all cold were my face & hands. Had I been dry, I would've been perfect.

ok so.. last year it got -17 the morning we hiked up sheep hunting.. and about the same for late season Elk… so by the sounds of it I need to layer up a bunch.. 155,145,spindrift then guide would be best?

IMO the Guide Jacket is just a shell that adds a layer of protection but does not do a good job of keeping you warm. In 3 seasons I only used mine once that I can remember because it was cold and I still froze my but off. It is bulky to pack too. I have given up on it and will replace it with a down jacket and the Chugach jacket.

that was one day and it was just cold had 4 layers on and my beard still froze on me… but most of the time its 10-20 in the am and then gets 50ish by mid day…

I find it a bit warmer than the Jetstream but layers are the key. Favorite puffy or the super down from kuiu is awesome. That should keep you warm in some cold temps.

I've worn mine with a ua cold gear turtleneck a 230 merino top a sitka kelvin lite vest and the jacket to 0 and been comfortable. Although same setup in the 20's stand hunting whitetails and I was cold. So I added my spindrift and was comfy. The guide by itself is like others said just a shell. In the 30-40 degree range I've been fine with just the base layers and guide but you'll want more layers if colder. It will also depend in you and how your internal thermostat runs as well.
