Any alaska, washington or oregon guys have it, Not that any other states dont count but it rains a little more in these places than most ..LOL I have the storm front lite stuff and like it fine but need a little more durabilty!

I've never used Kryptek. I've used KUIU in Alaska and BC. The Chugach Jacket kept me dry on a brown bear and goat hunt. On the goat hunt it rained everyday from the time I arrived until I left. I never got wet once and the pit zips were very nice when hiking. I orginally grew up in Western Oregon so I know what rain is like. Maybe Aaron or someone else will chime in on the Kryptek stuff.

The Kuiu is going to be lighter and more breathable, but the Kryptek will be more quite and tougher.

Both have pit zips and neither will hold water like other "hunting" rain gear, but again, this will boil down to what's most important to you and your type of hunting.

You won't go wrong with either decision, just ask yourself what's most important to you and the decision should be easy.

I had the Kryptek rain gear a couple of years ago. The fit was amazing. However, the pants were not even close to being waterproof and the hood on the jacket was not very adjustable. I may have had a bad production run on the pants, but the hood was definitely a design flaw. I took them both back to cabelas after my first weekend using them and never looked back.

Anyone tried the Kryptek Aegis extreme weather jacket? I am looking for outerwear that is multi functional (waterproof/breathable) that is lighter than my current Cabelas Gore Tex rig, which isn't hard because my current set up weighs a ton. This way I wouldn't need to carry along rain gear. I have a puffy that I can use for an insulating layer. I will be hunting at 11,000 feet in Colorado mid october so I think the insulation in the Aegis could prove valuable. So what is the best waterproof/breathable outerwear from Kryptec for this set up? Aegis, Poisedion, Koldo? Also, does anyone know what the difference between the gen 1 and 2 Aegis is? Thanks in advance.

Gelton, I wore the Aegis jacket last Oct, Nov and December. It's a great cold weather jacket. The best feature to me are the pit zips, they really cool you down on the hike in and out. I was worried that it would be way to warm for hiking but at that time of year with the temp being very low the Aegis was perfect. In November I went deer hunting for 5 days and it rained every flipping day, all day. The Jacket kept me warm and dry. I am going to take it with me on the bear hunt with Aron... Last December while wolf hunting I wore that jacket over the Spindrift and I was warm sitting for hours at a time in sub zero(wind chill) temps.

I have the Aegis Extreme jacket and really like it. Have only used it in a light rain and a couple of mild snow storms and so far has kept me dry. It is very warm for its weight. I mainly used mine treestand deer hunting and it kept me warm. Very good weight to insulating ratio as it is pretty light for a winter type coat. Pit zips are a great thing if you start to heat up. Nice piece of gear.

Thanks for the replies think I will try out the aegis extreme. Gore tex seems to be on its last legs as products from kryptek and kuiu make it obsolete. Waterproof and breathable is a misnomer. Long live pit zips!

And lastly, I just watched the Kryptek Clothing for 2013 video posted on this site and there is no way the Koldo is quieter. That jacket is loud!.

I own both the Chugach rain gear and the Koldo, and the Koldo is substantially quieter than the Chugach. In fact, as a bowhunter I bought the Koldo primarily because of the fact that it is so very much quieter than the Chugach coupled with the more versatile camo pattern. In my opinion, the Koldo's noise level splits the difference between raingear like the MT-050 and the Chugach.

I pulled the trigger on the Kryptek Koldo jacket and pants today. For me durability and noice levels in rain gear win out over the additionanl weight. Excellent products all!

Not to hijack this thread but I figure it's getting a lot of Kuiu eyeballs. Anyone have a Chugach, in Vias XL they'd like to sell? I posted this in the classifieds but I'm getting no love. PM so as not to further disrupt this thread. Carry on.

I just ordered the Chugach Jacket to go along with my Chugach Pants. I have a 15% off code if any one is interested. It's good through tomorrow. Pm me if you want it. It's good for any Kuiu gear.

Can anyone comment on the fit of the Chugach? Does it match the sizing of the guide jacket? I have one if the early Canadian made Guide's and had to get an XL even though I'm a L in everything else - the L was too tight under the arms. I'm 6 ft, 185. Thanks.

Can't comment on the new stuff, I have the Canadian stuff and all the tips I ordered were XL. The cugach actually didn't fit over the guide jacket that well. I did just order a supers down in XL and there's no way I could have gone with the large. I'm 6'2" 190 but have wide shoulders and long arms so that's part of the need for xl

Marc,

My jacket is a large and unfortunately wont fit you I think or I'd sell it to you today. Hell it feels snug in the shoulders and upper chest area on me and it snags when I lift my arms up. I'm 5'10" 180lbs. If I were keeping my KUIU gear I'd look at getting an XL jacket too. They definitely needed a little more relaxed fit on the rain jacket.

Glad it worked for you Gman. I just got back from a training hike in a friggin monsoon. 90% Jacket=not so waterproof, Chugach Pants=awesome. I was totally dry from the waist down, the opposite from the waist up. Can't wait for my Chugach Jacket to get here in a few days.
