I've seen lots of reviews on the Sitka Stratus (I have the jacket), and I've seen reviews on the Kryptek Vellus, but I want to know if the two compare. I know the Stratus works because I've used it, and anything with a Gore product in it will perform it's job. I just need to know if the Vellus holds up as far as quiet in whitetail woods, warmth, and windstopping ability. I don't like the Elevated patters, and feel highlander is more well rounded for different terrain. Plus if the Vellus is longer (I can't stand how short the Stratus is), that would be a bonus.

I have the Vellus and it has become my favorite jacket. Very quiet as it is fleece and certainly wind proof. I liked it so much I bought a second one for wearing in camp. I’m a scent control nut job. I hunted in upper teens with this and some 125 weight merino wool and was plenty warm. I highly recommend the Vellus pants as well.

That’s awesome. Does it fit well enough to put another thicker layer like a hoody under it if you needed to, or if it pretty form fitting?

I normally wear an XL, and had to go down to an L, but if you kept the size you normally wear then yes, there would be plenty of room.

Kryptek size varies from their different lines, so you may have to return it once to get the size you need.

I had the vellus, used it late last year for a bit. Warm and blocks winds well. My gripe, and this is personal preference, I absolutely couldn’t deal with the wind blocker membrane in the coat. It always felt kinda squeaky/restrictive, kinda like wearing a rubber glove. The face fabric is quiet alright, but with the hood up I always heard squeaking. Ended up selling it, and using a first lite unpronounceable instead. Warm(er) lighter, better fit and less restrictive for me. Size m vellus, size s uncompagrhe. I’m 5’6” 165 for reference

That’s odd, I never had any of those experiences. But yeah, if I had something like that I would do the same, I can’t stand a squeak anywhere...

I ordered one so I guess I will find out for myself, ha! Thanks for the insight
