The class of the Kowa binos is the Genesis series. I'm not at all impressed with the lesser Kowa lines. On the other hand, I can't recommend the Gennys enough. If you look at the Genesis 8X33, they will change your opinion of Kowa.

I bought the Kowa 6.5x32 based partially on this post. I wasn’t satisfied with them and ended up returning them. The FOV and close focus were nice, but the edges seemed soft and the depth of field was shallow. I’m not a binocular specialist, my other sets are Meopta Optika 10x42 and Steiner Navagator Pro 7x50. The glass in the Kowa seemed similar to the old non HD Vortex Diamondback 10x42 that I keep in the truck, with poor control of stray light and poor low light performance.

I may get blasted for posting this since most people seem to love the Kowa, but I’m in the market for a nice 8x32 in the $400 range. I’m reading up on the Nikon M7 8x30, Meopta Meopro HD 8x32, or the Leupold BX-4 8x32 (assuming they are still Japanese glass).
the Kowa do have some distortion in the outer edges. However, any fan of superwide binoculars will tell you that comes with the territory, unless you spend several thousands on NL pures. But superwide fans rather have the extra “info” that can be dialed into focus rather then have a smaller FOV. The Kowa center are wicked sharp.

I have the other ones you mentioned.. the meopta outer edges are much worse, the monarch 7 are darker. The diamondbacks don’t come close. You might enjoy the mavens but the low light performance don’t compare to the Kowa. But you will have better clarity in the outer edges…I have no experience with the leupold

Looking at the Kowa BD II XD 8x32mm Roof Prism Wide-Angel Binoculars vs the Maven B3 for dark timber elk and NC tree stand whitetail hunting.

The Kowas are priced a little better, but I get that you get what you pay for.

I already have a set of 10x42’s so these would be something I would use on a limited basis.

Thoughts?
I would look at the 6.5x32. I didn’t try there 8x but did compare the 6.5 Kowa to the 8x and 6x Maven b.3 I found the 8x maven to close to my 10x 42 swaro’s and figured I end up with the swaros in my hands if had the choice between the 8x and 10x.(Mavens are very nice glass). The 6.5 have a great fov and are really bright in the dark woods. The glass is a bit inconsistent but I don’t notice it when under the canopy of a dark forest. I always carry my 10x with a tripod for when I reach a clear cut that needs some serious glassing. The 6.5 magnification seems plenty for the distances you get when in the woods.

Ugh! You guys are no help. Over time I’ve been on the fence about going from my Zeiss 10x42s to no binos when tree stand hunting, to a monocular, to the Leica 8x25, and now I’m pretty sure I’m going to follow the advice of @Blue72 and buy both the B.3 6x30 and the Kowa 6.5x32. And I have a Rick Young harness, but I’m sure I will need a smaller Marsupial so I can attach my LRF in the same way I do with the Zeiss setup…. Curse you!

I’m about to pull the trigger on the Kowas, but the Mavens are out of stock. It will be tough to compare the two given the short time to return the Kowas if I don’t like them. The small Marsupial pouches are also out of stock….

I bought the Maven 6x30s to compare to my 8x30s. Prefer the 8x30s overall. If you want the 6x30s I’m happy to sell. They are in flawless condition. Message me if you want pics. I ordered them on 9/10/21.

I used my new Kowas on a hunting trip this past weekend. I really liked them. The first couple of uses were small feeding plots, with low light at the end of the day, and they performed even better than expected. I then sat in a high tower with a much longer possible rifle shot and I had a moment of regret that I had not instead brought my higher power (Zeiss Victory SF 10x42) binos, but the 6.5x was plenty of magnification. The eye relief on the Kowas seemed even better than my Zeiss, although I think the Zeiss might have a mm more.

I also got to use a borrowed set of Zeiss Terra ED 10x25 for a sit - and I hated them. I could not seem to get a good view and the eye relief seemed terrible.

I'm still interested in comparing the Maven 6x30s to the Kowa 6x30 at some point.

My new problem that you all have caused to be resurrected - is going light better, and do I really need my 10x42s (and if I unload them, couldn't I use those funds for a rifle!)? Should I also look at the Victory pocket 8x25s? Idle hands + RS....
