Kowa TSN-601 - Which eyepiece?

I'll be mule deer hunting in unit 86. High country. What eyepiece do you recommend for the TSN-601? I'm leaning toward the 30x wide angle over the 20-60.

I'll call Doug on Monday to order and ask his opinion also.

I personally like a zoom eyepiece and don't like to limit my magnification to a fixed number. Sometimes that extra power will show you a kicker or some trash that you could not see with 30 power. 60 power is double 30 power and makes a difference. Granted, there are times in certain lighting conditions where 60 power is useless but there are plenty of times when you can use it. Fatrascal.

I would get both. I have a 37x wide angle, and a zoom eyepiece for my Nikon ed50. I use both of them, depending on what or how far I’m looking. Wide angle eyepieces I find are usually easier to look through and cause me less eye strain.

I like the zoom, I typically only want to use a spotter to verify and glass off a tripod with binos. I’d trade zoom over eye fatigue

I have the 601 and both eyepieces. For me, I think the 601 is best with the 30 fixed. The light gathering and view with the 20-60 isn’t the best in my opinion. I also have the 66 spotter and use the 20-60 on that. It offers a better view to me.

The 30x fixed is really nice on the 601. I’ve used both and there are times when it is nice to have additional power up to 60x, but 95% of the time 30x is adequate and it has a much better fov, color, resolution, etc. the 20-60 is fine but if using the spotter to find game at all, the 30x is excellent.

Thanks for the replies. You confirmed what I was thinking. I’m going to go with the 30x.

I’ll be using it to find game. I don’t need to field judge anything.
