I was wondering if anyone has had any field experience with using the 1.6 extender on a Kowa Spotter? I'm assuming the image quality would suffer a bit, however, was wondering if it would be worth using. I Currently have a Kowa 884 and use it to diascope. I've been debating trying to upgrade to the 99, but the extra size and weight is the main draw back. I do a lot of backpack Couse hunts so I get the optical quality just didn't know if the extender would be a reasonable/usable option.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A Kowa 884 is big enough to handle an extender well though not to full power. 40-96x assuming you have 25-60 wide angle zoom?

You could go up to 75x comfortably in average conditions. Biggest issue is atmospheric conditions like haze and wind PLUS tripod stability.

Yea I currently have the 25x60WA. Ive been running a rock bag that seems to help a tone with stability. But would agree the atmospheric c9nditions would be the limiting factor. If I could squeeze it to 75-80 (with the right conditions) I would be happy with that.

I appreciate the feedback back. I just dont know anyone who has one that has experience with using one.

This was taken with the extender at 2km, wrote the meters on the photo. We were able to figure age. We also judged rams that tip back at 5km as well.

I always bring it on sheep and goat hunts as inches and rings matter. Most other hunts I wouldn’t consider it.
