Kodiak Canvas tents - yes please

Great shelter. We even have a portable AC unit for the summer. And a small inverter to run it if needed. Big Buddy for heat.

If I wanted to pull double duty as a base camp for hunts with 2 guys (this would be used maybe a night or two since we primarily backpack) and as a tent for camping with the wife and two kids, would the 10x10 work or would I be better off with the 10x14?

I snagged a 10x10 on sale this year, on first setup there was a small tear in roof, called competitive edge and they promptly sent a replacement and return label...impressed

Depending on how you guys skeep in it you could do it, sleeping bags no problem, bunk cots probably (only issues are the walls slant in a bit), a big air mattress would get some comfortable and maybe 1 not so comfortable. Depends on how big the kids are, how luxurious you guys want to be.

I am wanting to pick up the 10x 14 to make for a more comfortable night with the kids, more room and as far as set up wouldnt take any more time

I have the 10x14 super deluxe, absolutely love it for all seasons! Had it on desert deer hunts, to late season elk hunts. Family camp trips are great as well, for a queen size, twin size, pack in play with plenty of room for the kids to play while waiting out monsoon storms.

If we set up with a large tarp over the tent and put a tarp inside at head height we can weather the nastiest day. Here in South Dakota the middle of summer can be brutal, and this really takes the edge off. We can run it off a small inverter so don't even need a powered campsite.

We have a fifth wheel camper with all the amenities, but this thing can set up anywhere. There are some great campsites along the river that require something like this to be comfortable.

With the buddy heater, do you have to worry about carbon monoxide?

I have the 10x10, and the 9x14. I don't use the 9x14, even though I have the front room attachment (adds an 8x8 front room) because it takes a while to set up.

I have 4 kids, so looking to pick up a 10x14 as I love the "flex bow" style tents!

I opened two windows up top and it seemed fine for an hour or so before bed and in the mornings getting dressed. I did get a bit of frozen condensation inside in the mornings but it might have just been the weather - a balmy 15 degrees. Burning propane releases Co2 and water. I wonder if a wood stove would dry things out. After a couple days I also noticed the water building up near the head of my sleeping bag.

Since a couple guys mentioned sales, what time of year do these Kodiaks tend to go on sale, and through which retailers? I’m interested in the 10x14, looks pretty dang comfortable compared to tents I’m used to. Gateway to the full on wall tent.

Just got back from 7 nights in my 10x14 with buddy heater
Low temp was -9 high temp was 28 @ 7800’
Very impressed with this combo, even well below zero the buddy heater was able to keep it comfortable inside.

I have always used a traditional wall tent and wood stove, after this trip I don’t think it will be getting much use.

I strongly suggest the 10x14, it’s no harder to set up/ take down and the space is nice

I have had the 10x10 Spring Bar for 15 years. It's a great tent and made in the USA. Same tent as Kodiak for the most part.

10x10 and buddy heater, perfect little solo base camp

We used to have 10 X 20 floored tents made of canvas and if you had to break camp due to rain you dang near needed a forklift to pick them up and stow them for the trip home. Much older and almost as wise I bought a ripstop nylon dome tent with external frame and rain fly 16lbs dry but I bet a lot less than an = size canvas version.

I'm looking at picking one of these up as well. It looks like Competitive Edge Products might be the best place to buy.

They have the 10X14 on sale now, but it looks like the non-sale price is the same as Cabelas but with a free ground cloth (depending on model) and with free shipping and no tax.

I'd love to hear of other options if anyone knows of any.
