Kodiak Canvas/Buddy Heater

I made a little bracket for one of my Buddy heaters to hold a heat induced fan.
Man, that works slick. Instead of the heat going straight up it distributes it out and away.

Nice work! I don't have your fab skills but accomplished something similar with a sawzall. I cut a 1" deep notch into the base of the fan and it slides over the grate. Works good but not as pretty as your work.

Since it's been said twice now, it's a CO alarm. Carbon Monoxide. You breath out CO2, and while that can be harmful in high concentrations, CO is the issue with combustion inside an enclosed space.

I heard about this incident but couldn't find any evidence that he was using a Buddy Heater. Do you have anything you can share? I've searched and searched and can't find any deaths/injuries caused by a Buddy Heater.
Not sure what he was using. But it was Propane for sure. The way they made it sound it was debatable if living was a good thing.

That's a very terrible and sad thing to happen. I too have heard of many people who have died from the improper use of space heaters. I've never found a single incident attributed to the fault of a Buddy Heater that didn't involve gross negligence.

The diesels are interesting. Are they noisy?
I’m still thinking a Buddy may be better for my case.

They do make noise since there is a fan running constantly.

My wife is the type who likes noise and always sleeps with a fan on so it doesn’t bother me. If you like dead silence it may not be the best for that.

I've got the regular buddy heater with the fan like others have mentioned. I use it in a 10x10 canvas tent. It's plenty of heat, easy, and cost effective. You'll be pleased with it.

If its going to be cold and you want a Buddy heater get the Big Buddy. I ran the regular one on a hunt and it takes the edge off but that tent loses heat fast. The next late season hunt I did I got one of the heaters that goes right on the top of the tank and it was much better.

Got a link? Was it the indoor safer catalyst burner type?

I also have one of these
Its been in my camping gear for 25+ years

It can be used to heat or cook on

Got a link to the one you use? I am looking at going this direction for my enclosed trailer this season.
They don’t make the one I have anymore but here is the new version

Vevor is the other popular brand on Amazon and they just came out with Bluetooth capabilities. Might be nice for your trailer setup.

The silzel comes with a remote

Thanks! I will check them out.

How many 12 volt batteries do you use and how long is the run time on yours? Ballpark guess for 20-30 degrees for low at night.

I was using a 100ah deepcycle battery. And never ran out after a few days. Then I bought this

I can get a week out of it using the heater all night. I brought a 5 gallon can of diesel and came home with over a gallon.

With the lithium battery I would keep it inside and route your wires into the trailer. It comes with 3foot long leads but you can just wire in as long as you need.

You could mount the heater inside and route the exhaust out but I’d feel safer mounting the heater outside and routing the heating vent in. Just my .02

Edit: one more thing, these diesel heaters actually dry your gear out and lack condensation. I originally bought this for ice fishing and no longer have a roof full of water and have to dry out my hut when I get home.
