Went on another boat based Kodiak hunt in Mid-November. We booked a few years back but the boat sold recently to new owners. We ended up being the first trip for the new owners. Was a little hesitant but went anyway. Cole and Beaux with Kodiak Pursuit Charters were top notch and made for an awesome trip. This was my 5th boat based trip in Kodiak and they are as a good as it gets.

If anyone is considering it, don't wait. It is a total safari. We could have filled all our deer tags on day one. You can also get into some world class waterfowl, fox hunting, goats if you're a resident and some good fishing.

If anyone is interested in a 2025 hunt I think they still have a few weeks available. I think they're about $3k per person with 6 on the boat for a week trip.

Looks badass! This was gonna be my next AK hunt until they reduced the Non-rez to 1 deer. I get that it needed to be done, but it turned off a few of my buddies who wanted to go. 5kish to shoot a blacktail made them back out. Do you have any pictures of the bucks?

I hear you. I feel spoiled on this trip with a pocket full of tags… 3 deer, 2 goat and an empower goose tag.

Not gonna post my buddies photos up without their permission. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of my buck. I shot both a buck and a doe on day one with my bow never recovered the buck. First animal I haven’t recovered. Seemed to be a nice pass-through shot in the boiler room Pouring blood out for a few hundred yards. Blood trail just stopped as he went into a thicket of raspberry bushes. Three guys looked for quite some time and couldn’t find him

I’ve been on the same boat twice for spring goats. It’s a blast!!
Ya, I’ve done winter goats a couple times camping on the beach and then had to cancel my spot on the boat in 2021 for a family emergency. Excited to finally have a redo. I think it’s one of the coolest hunts in AK. Best way to break up winter.

I know it's a little controversial, but what time of year do you guys typically think is the better time to go? I have had a couple guys tell me winter with snow on the ground is better and others say complete opposite.

I like to hunt the rut. Super fun calling in deer and the bucks run around and act pretty stupid. Pretty sure that's the only reason I was able to connect with a bow this year - I am not a skilled archery hunter.

I have also hunted deer there after a big snow. We had a huge dump on day one and then got cold after that. By day three of the hunt, all the deer were on or close to the beach. Every day we went ashore with guns ablaze!

Hard to time the snow though - I have done march goat hunts with very little snow anywhere to include up high.

***edit... I think blacktail deer is some of the best game meat in Alaska, but I have had some absolutely disgusting meat from rutty bucks in years past. That's the risk you take when hunting rut.
