What backcountry knives are you all using. I have a gerber vital and havalon looking for fixed blade. Under 150

I'm planning to pick up the one from Iron Will broadheads. I think it's $125 and seems well designed and thought out.

I just got a rainier knife and am super happy with it so far. At $85 it’s hard to beat that value and still have enough for a havalon. I also like kestrel but very interested in the iron will knife too.

My kill kit has a Havalon and a Benchmade hidden canyon in it. I also like the kestrel and steel will knives, I’ve also been happy with the buck ultralight skinner.

running a typo and kestrel Ovis this year provided the ovis gets here hoping to shave weight but still be able to breakdown critters with minimal down time to sharpen

This will be my first year with a havalon. Always been a stout fixed blade guy, benchmade saddle mountain skinner as of late. To compliment my havalon I’m going to fall back on my benchmade bugout. Not a stout fixed but since I’ve always got a folder in my pocket anyhow. I think it will be up to the task.

I have just about all of the knives. Except the new iron will and a esee.
All the knives are great and each have their place and some get favored more then others. I have done post mortems on and broken down more animals then I can count with a benchmade or keith richard knife. In the price point you have a number of great knives. You have to decide if you want a skeleton handle where every ounce is paramount or if you can afford to carry a heavier knife.

I always perfer a knife with a full handle if I can spare the weight. Any benchmade, Mora, or any custom knife maker falls into this catagory. I recently got some knives from rokslide member "idahoElk". https://www.thewoodvault.com/ They may be over $150 for sure but these are 2 of the finest knives I have seen. I would consider them very much top tier for about half of top tier price. Plus the wood work on them is stellar.

Then you have your skeleton knives. I have several kestrel and knives like that. I really like the skeleton knives but I like them better with a paracord handle. The paracord gets nasty and I replace it everytime I use the knife and get it nasty and bloody. I can use the knives without and be ok with minimum hand pressure but its more pressure then a handled knife. With that being said the pressure doesn't bother me to save 2 or 4 ounces on the knife in the pack weight.

Almost every hunter in New Zealand uses Victory butchers knives (the curved boner, or the skinner) at some stage.. Affordable (~$30?), easily maintained, and able to be pinched from the meat works by your mate's uncle.
Great dependable blades, and worth a look. Not very cool, but brilliant in a utilitarian way.
I've since moved to a Bark River Gunny Hunter, but still have a soft spot for the ol' butch. 108256

I like the KOA boning knife when I am deboning the meat. You can get it for under $80.

I have also used the Cutco Double D serrated knife which is under $100. Not fancy but it cuts like nothing else.

I have used those Cutco drop points for many years. They are really great knives especially the serrated. Everytime I dont take it it I wish I had.

One of the knives I made for Reburn.

Havalon for game. Leatherman multi tool for general use and jointing an animal (where the havalon blades are too flimsy). I have been using that 2 knife system for a couple years and wouldn't go back.
