My BIL just returned from deployment and I want to get him a hunting knife for Christmas. He’s just started getting into hunting the last couple years and doesn’t have a nice one yet. It’ll be something of a do-all hunting knife for him to begin with. We have plans for a bear hunt this spring (assuming he doesn’t get deployed again in that time) but he will also do some bird hunting with me in the fall.

I want something that’ll be a nice tool for him and last a long time. I wish I would’ve thought about it sooner so I maybe could have looked into a custom knife. He wasn’t supposed to be home this soon so I hadn’t put much thought into it.

Anyway, looking to keep it under $150. What suggestions do you all have?

A Bark River Gunny may be a meaningful piece for him. The gunny is a very very good general purpose drop point and excellent hunting, bushcrafty and survival type knife. Although not a Randall, a common gift for service persons.

I love the regular sized m4 hogue extrak. Used it the last 3 years. Very very happy with it, enough so that I ordered a magnacut version and the XL on black Friday this year.
Really just wanted to compare the magnacut to the m4 in the same blade (im a steel nerd).
But also wanted to try the bigger size.
They're on sale right now around 150-160$ if you look around.
