Knife sharpener

KME here, scary sharp and no complaints. Some may be better but since i havent tried them out im happy and see no way i could be any sharper anyhow.

I would take a look at edge pro that will put a wicked good edge on any of your knives

Reading all the replies and looking up items, man if you're looking between wicked edge, landsky and KME, the price on the landsky is so much less why would you pay so much more for the others. I've always had a lot of compliments on how sharp I get my knives and I use a landsky. Bought a sharpmaker but I can't get the blade as sharp.

interesting- certainly thought more folks would be saying different grit sandpaper (on a mouse pad) in conjunction with finishing on a strop

cheap, but all my knives pop hair without much fuss

I agree with this, with the addition of a couple good stones. Maintainence is much easier when your not messing with remembering angles, or settin up the machine. Those machines can make a heck of an edge, but it takes a decent amount of time to do it.

I have access to a wicked edge, but never use it, it's a lot less work to begin with, and to maintain using a sandpaper and strop, stones come out when the edge is bad or needs reprofiling

On top of that an edge created using the above is easy to touch up in he field, with almost no weight penalty. A few chunks of sandpaper weigh nothing

I use a dmt stone because I know how to sharpen a knife. If you need a crutch I’ve owned an edge pro and they’re very good for a reasonable price. The wicked edge system is supposed to be great as well for a bit more money. There’s no way I would use anything electric to sharpen my knives, they’re all worth to much money to destroy with an electric sharpener.

The above post will get it done on the cheap.

400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper on a block of wood then strop on leather. I use a 1x2 piece of board with leather glued to it for the strop, then cut my sandpaper to fit the board. Paper is held to the board with a ranger band so its all in one place. Entire set up is cheap enough that I have a set up in the house and another that's left in the camper so I always have a way to sharpen knives.
