Anyone use this? Wondering how that R-value (4.4) would stack up for freezing temps and a 20* EE Quilt? Also, wondering if the welded through baffle construction would allow heat loss if you don't have a bag underneath you filling those gaps? I have the uninsulated version and think the comfort is fine, so just wondering about temp ratings...

I have not but I was thinking about getting a V2 non-insulated for summer camping (R = 1.3?). I've read alot of good things about it and it's cheap as hell

I've got the uninsulated version if you want to check it out. I used it in Idaho last year and temps went into the low 20's on some nights. I paired it with a walmart special CCF pad and made a pine bough bed on one of the nights. It's definitely not a winter pad, but I'll be keeping mine for the cool to warm weather stuff.

I've got the Klymit Insulated Static V. I picked it up on a great deal on camofire. I used it all last September and 4+ night already this summer. It doesn't fit inside my sleeping bag, so I run it out of my mummy bag. It is about the size of a nalgene when packed up and is 25oz with the patch kit.

With that being said, I really like it and I think the pad does a good job of keeping the cold off of my back. Very comfortable and only set me back $40 or $50.

Hey Benny, are you looking at the insulated static V cause it's cheap or because it's rectangular, or both? Just going through all the options in my head...

Thanks Yak. Definitely puts my mind at ease a little with regards to warmth. Just wonder if the "through-welds" will let heat escape since I'm not using a bag...

jm1607,

Cheap is definitely a factor, but also a big part is because of the width and the material (70D) vs some of the ultralight pads out there with 30D or less. I would consider the XTherm, but the large size is about 7 inches longer than I need...plus the edges of the pad tend to collapse and doesn't make full use of the width that the Large size would give...

Hmmm... Only other pad that comes to mind is the Exped Synmat UL7 in Medium/Wide but it costs about $60 more and is probably not as strong as 70D.. I'm guessing it's 30D-50D.. But it weighs 5oz less and is 3" wider

That Klymit might be your best choice unless you want to go with one of the "surfboard" cut semi-rectangular pads.. I tried, I can't sleep on them

The SynMat UL7 is 20D and only has an R-value of 3.3 though...

BTW, if you want to get one for a good price get on Ebay. Klymit sells them directly on there and you can make a really low offer and they'll accept. They have the one I want (Static V2) for $70 shipped and I just offered $42 shipped and they accepted!!

The xtherm is 70d on the bottom. The new max versions don't have a problem with collapsing edges.

The new 2015 models are actually 50D on the bottom (Just verified with Thermarest). The guy I talked to didn't seem to know much about the collapsing edges. Is it just the Max version that addresses that issue?

I'll check that out. Thanks man!

Has anyone owned both an Exped insulated and a Klymit insulated? I am curious on the different comfort ratings you guys give them.

Mine is a v2 off massdrop on a good deal. So far I've really liked it and it seems to be very warm. Used it on an idaho bear hunt and did great down to 30. Actually selling my thermarest because I like it so much. Can't do much better for your $$

I have the static. Nice durable and light pad. Hard to sleep on your side with it though due to the welts. For $50 it works for me!

Guys you get what you pay for. I spend about 60 nights a year either back pack hunting or backpacking. I've owned the Klymit, Exped Synmat 7 and now Hyperlite, Several Big Agness pads including the Q-Core SL,, both the Thermarest X-Lite and X-Therm. My opinion for what its worth is the klymit is heaviy and low r-value, when comapred to a Big Agnes Q-cCore SL,or the X-Therm. Any of those mats are very good. Yes they may cost a little more but when running a quilt you need that R-Value underneath you.
