Kind of tired of Bagel/B-Hole sandwiches, alternatives??

I’m a big fan of wraps to break up the sandwich monotony. Meat, cheese and cream cheese usually does it for me. Sometime a little lettuce on it

I got tired of the Bhole sandwich in about 2014 and went to these.

My wife makes tamales in the fall and they hold up well in a ziplock or vacuum sealed. The cold fall or winter weather they have no issues keeping their shape in the corn husk/vacuum bag.

She packs them dealers choice with different salsa and meat (deer, duck, elk, pheasant). It's a nice treat from the usual mountain top snacks and lunch cuisine.

If you have a hook up for real tamales and enjoy them, give it a try.

I dont really bring any ultra processed crap or bread into the field with me anymore. The closest I get are bars.

RX Bars and Lara Bars, sometimes Cliff bars. Summer sausage or Pepperoni / salami for lunch. If it's a day hunt I'll do ham or roast beef and cheese roll ups.

Some type of rice and beef or rice and chicken for dinner. I used to do Peaks, but last year I started dehydrating my own stuff.

Im about to start experimenting with dehydrating scrambled eggs and sausage as well.

Do you eat them cold?

-pack of tuna and one of the single serve packets of mayo. (you can mix it up with all the different flavors they offer)
-cold soaked ramen noodles with Doritos and a couple chunks of pepperoni
-single serve peanut butter, single serve packet of honey smothered on a tortilla.
-hunk of your favorite cheese and some trail baloney.

Spicy Jerky Crackers. I wish I had a better name for these but basically I found a simple recipe for homemade crackers and mix everything bagel seasoning, green chile flakes, and bits of jerky into the dough before rolling out and baking for about 12 minutes. They are lightweight and surprisingly filling. I slice the jerky meat really thin and smoke a little longer than usual so it's pretty crispy, this way it breaks into small pieces to mix into the dough easier.

They are still pretty good cold. But I put the package between my base layer and jacket while sitting, or just leave them on a rock if the sun is out and they end up warm that way.

I guess you could heat them with a jetboil or something, but a warm flavorful tamale is a nice change to a protein bar once in a while.

My wife makes me sourdough English muffins once a week. Since I eat two meals a day, the first being at around 9:30-10am and the next being around 6:30pm, the first is almost always a sourdough English muffin with a breakfast sausage patty, cheese, egg, and sometimes avocado. I love it, haven’t gotten bored of it yet.

The fat content is high, but this year I’m really enjoying biscuits and a good chicken gravy to dip them in . . . throw in an entire rotisserie chicken if it’s going to be a long day.

Homemade corn tortillas are really good.

Homemade flour tortillas are really good. A double thickness flour tortilla reminds me of other flat breads. Yeast pizza dough cooked on a griddle like flat bread has less fat and tastes great. Fry it in oil and it reminds me of Indian fry bread. Cook it like pizza for bread sticks. Just add a little sauce, cheese and pepperoni for a couple little pizzas for the road.

Pie crust cooked with cinnamon and sugar is a great snack. Whole apple or cherry pie is a long time favorite. In the old days a savory hand pie was common with factory workers. I’d take a chicken hand pie, one of the apple and two cherry. No take off one cherry and add a beef and potato.

That made me think of a pot roast and thick gravy with mashed potatoes. That made me think of a huge burrito. The burrito made me think of a big sub sandwhich. Lol

Sub sandwiches are near the bakery, that reminded me of taking a dozen doughnuts one day. A Stanley jug of hot water and a few premium ramen noodles are good, or boiling hot chicken soup instead of hot water. Or skip the Roman and make some home made thick noodles like the Grandmas in the frozen isle. The frozen isle has some Marie Calendar pot pies and apple pies I’ve cooked and wrapped in foil for later in the day. 🙂

This post made me hungry.

A lot of great suggestions on here already. A go to for me is to grab a few of the premade charcuterie boards or the different salamis and cheeses that make them up from the grocery store. Ask your wife or girlfriend if you’re unfamiliar with what a charcuterie board is. I’ll take those and some individual packets of Mike’s hot honey and make a sandwich with an everything bagel. Since you said no bagels, you could use a tortilla or any other bread or just go without.

Those different meats and cheeses have a great fat and protein content, the honey is a great sugar boost, and it does really well in a pack for a day or even a couple. The honey soaks into the bagel but it’s never soggy. Also just a little more flavorful than your run of the mill sandwiches.
