I didn't read every post or even page. But if it hasn't been mentioned, Leupold currently has a 5-6 week wait on custom shop work according to what I was told last week.

Just throwing that out there in case it matters.

Also, been lots of more educated responses on this than I can offer, but I had nearly the same debate and went with a t3x Superlite .308 with vx3i 4-16x40 B&C Reticle.

On the optic, ended up going with a Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42 with the HSR-4 reticle. 1" tube, capped turrets, side focus. Looked ok.

Hope it works with Talley Lightweight 'low' rings. If anyone knows, feel free to share. I thought I'd read somewhere where someone was saying that the low height in the lightweights are actually closer to a medium in other mfg's rings, and that they'd work with objectives up to 42mm, so I went ahead and ordered, but then heard that they might not work...so we'll see.

SWFA is definitely a quality product for the money.

Kimber I received was mfg'd in Feb 2016, I just found out from Kimber customer service.

So, we'll see what happens. Wish it'd been a little more recent, but oh well. Can't do much. I asked EuroOptic to give me a serial to check, but they couldn't, and wouldn't check date of mfg themselves.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Now as soon as you can get some glass on it, get out there and shoot it and enjoy hunting with it.

that's probably pretty new considering how many models and chamberings they produce - I personally think you're over thinking this way too hard

Never being one to let grass under my feet when I get "solid" advice, yesterday I ordered a SWFA 3x9x42 as mentioned above, we will see .... my Leupolds are all ignoring me now

Really?? You're worried about it being an early model because it was manufactured 11 months ago? This makes me chuckle, as the last rifle I bought was manufactured 118 years ago.

after reading so much here I'm not sure I'm qualified to "test" anything ......

Well maybe "test" is the wrong word.
I guess we'll just settle for your taking it with you in the woods for a couple of trips and telling us what happens.

You're probably right - I tend to over-think and over-research stuff.

Optic should be here tomorrow - hope to at least mount it tomorrow night then test it Friday or Saturday if possible!

Spearhunting is something I've fantasized about for a while. I don't bow hunt or even own a bow, but if I was going to primitive, I've always 'joked' with people that I'd spear hunt.

Gotta ask - were you successful?? Were you in a stand?

I was just joking about the spear hunting. My last rifle purchase, a couple months ago, wasn't a joke though. I probably paid too much, but I've always wanted one and you only live once, and I'm not getting any younger, and it will be a nice rifle to pass down to my kids, and the list of reasons go on and on. At least those will be some of the reasons, whenever I tell my wife about it. It may be a few years when that happens though. I kind of imagine the conversation to go something like; Wife: "When did you get this"? Me: "Oh, that old thing? I've had that for years".
The serial # is 150xxx, Winchester 30-30, model 1894, mfg. in 1899.

I just recently acquired a T3 compact in 308. Im really liking it so far. The shorter length of pull is perfect for me. I can shoulder the rifle on top of my back pack shoulder strap and still easily get my eye close enough to the scope.

From your profile picture, I'd honestly figured you'd be the type of person to chuck a spear at a big game animal. Slightly disappointed.
