Kifaru to SG or EXO

Ran about 12 days this months with my muskeg. 4 days were 50+ lbs and while Its extremely comfortable, and I like the layout, I cant get past how strappy it is. I also, kinda like the idea of more streamlined look and feel with bigger side stretch pockets. For all these reasons, I was looking to try out a SG 6900 and or a new EXO 6400. My only hesitation is the lack of comfort when hauling 50+ lbs.

So far I've hauled out 2 elk and 4 mule deer with my SG 5900 and couldn't be happier.

Seen a lot of guys trim the straps down so there not hanging everywhere.

I find SG and Exo packs to be more comfortable with a load than the last gen duplex I had. Others feel differently.

I'm not sure I'd make a switch for the reasons you gave, but only way to know is to try.

SG is a great company and make killer packs. Never ran and exo but guys love em. Kifaru is awesome. I would cut your straps or use the Velcro to roll the straps up. It comes in handy when you need to strap meat down and gear.

The straps are there for good reason. Roll them up and use the Velcro keepers. It’s not how the pack looks that’s truly important it’s how the pack works. At least for me.

I don't know why guys get do bent over straps. Why would you take the time to roll them up and Velcro them?

I have yet to see any of my straps when my pack is on.

If you want a less "strappy" pack don't get a SG.

I definitely don't think SG is less strappy, especially compared to the Muskeg.

Put an EXO on your Kifaru frame.

I've never tried a Kifary pack/frame but I can say with confidence that when I think about Exo packs and heavy weights, comfortable is definitely one of the words I'd use.

I've packed out dozens of deer/goats/pigs with my Exo 5500 since owning it for the last 18 months or so, and many of those loads have been around 100lbs.

What DWarcher said, if only switching for the bags sake just put an Exo bag on a Kifaru frame and be done with it. That's what I run and it's a surprisingly good and easy fit.

if your only hesitation is comfort at 50+ lbs, I can assure that isn't a problem w/ a SG frame/bag

also on packs that are meant to carry your game between the frame and bag, the straps have to be of decent length so you can pull the bag away from the frame sufficiently to fit a meat sack- that's the way the SG is setup

I made the switch to a SG 5900 from a Kifaru for the reasons you mentioned and do not at all regret my decision. With the Kifaru I always felt like I had a floppy bag behind me. With the SG everything is in a nice, tight, streamline package. The load shelf itself was worth the switch. I'm a big fan. That said, with heavy weights the Kifaru was slightly more comfortable for me.

That's because the SG has a more functional, and better compression system. ie, more and longer straps.

The Exo is much less strapy and a simpler design. However I don’t think there is an upgrade in comfort. They both ride and carry very well.

If it was me personally I'd just drop a bag I like more on the frame I had, but I'm a cheap beesterd like that...

If you just want to switch though then switch, i doubt you can go wrong with either of those options

I bought the SG 6900 last year and used it all season. Super refined pack and very comfortable. Also packs down pretty well. I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces again this upcoming fall and winter. Definitely worth a look.

Different packs work for different people I use kifaru my brother uses stone glacier
