Kifaru Tarryall vs. Exo 3500

Fellow Rokslider's,

I am in the market for a new pack and have narrowed it down to the Kifaru Tarryall and the Exo Mountain Gear 3500. From what I have read both packs are great for day hunting and a few nights in the backcountry. I like the Exo's removable bag so you have the ability to add meat to the frame, but on the other hand I like everything about the Tarryall. I would be using these packs for primarily day hunts (4 a.m - 8 p.m) and the possibility of overnighters on early mule deer hunts. One of my main concerns is how the Tarryall and the Exo would hold up with a elk hind quarter on it. The Tarryall seems like it would be very clumsy with a whole bone in quarter on it, and the exo seems like it could just be take off the frame and strapped down. Hope someone has some advice for me on what to purchase.

I have the exo 3500 on my kifaru frame. It is a fantastic setup.

I had the Exo 3500 bag in a kifaru UL duplex. If your going for elk with the Poss of carrying a load as you said, get the Exo. That pack rocks!! Plus you can carry as much as you can hold. I sold mine to get the Tarryall which should be arriving soon. Pretty sure max comfortable carry for this pack is about 50lb. Here in Tx with my style of hunting, brush busting etc, all I need is the Tarrayall pack. I'll drag my deer when needed.

The Exo frame is perfect for an elk qtr. For bone in I'd recommend getting the beavertail too.

I have a foliage EXO 3500 2015 model with a small belt if your interested. Never hauled meat, only gear.

Might want to wait a few weeks. Exo is going to be releasing their 2017 line. I doubt any major changes, but it might be worth the wait to find out what their tweeking for this year.

My Exo 3500 got bone-in elk quarters off the mountain without any problem. I'm old so I took four trips. Very simple to go to meat hauling mode I have meat shelf but not the beaver tail.
