Im in the market for a new shelter and the write ups ive read have me dead set on a tarp. This will be my primary backcountry shelter for the summer and early fall. It will be used 50% of the time as a solo shelter and 50 % as a two man. Is the extra weight of the Mega worth the extra room?

My ST is perfect for one and hunting gear. I've used it as a two man shelter many times in the summer, but think it would be tight for two with hunting gear. If your two man trips are going to be during hunting season, I'd get the Mega.

If camping with two guys I would definitely buy the mega tarp. With an opening at both ends each guy could have his own entrance .No need to crawl over you partner getting in or out

I've had both. For 50% with two guys the extra 3.5 oz is worth it for the mega. The supertarp works well for one guy when you can put your stuff beside you. The foot end of the ST gets really low and doesn't work well for storing gear also no access so you have to crawl over your bag and pad. The mega has a lot more head room and you could sleep opposite each other as already mentioned and each have your own entrance. If using the annex and a stove you could use the rear entrance for packs and gear and have plenty of room on the stove end for wood and getting in and out.
