Im looking for a solid day pack. I've got it narrowed down between a mystery ranch 3DAP or shape charge for EDC. I'm looking for a bag to travel with that can also be used for some hiking, day trips. I would prefer for it to not look too tactical but I also want a bomb proof bag.

What’s your EDC load out for a day?
Both are big bags.
I like both brands but, as I get older I find myself carrying less EDC stuff.
Unless you just want Kifaru or MR, I’d look at a hiking pack like osprey. My GF has drug an Osprey day pack to Italy and back, takes it to work daily and just took it on a cruise.
EDC I really like AER, alpha one niner makes some great EDC bags, and the owner is top shelf.
Back to your question out of those two. I like the shape charge.

Thank you for your reply.
Right now I'm rocking kifaru's urban ruck 2.0 with a sherman pocket, but I'm looking for something a little bigger thats not only a top loader for when I completely fill up the bag.
I'm able to fit most of my stuff in there, but I'm looking for something that I'm able to fit an extra set of clothes, gym shoes and laptop along with my work gear. It'd also be nice if it could double as an outdoor/day hiker backpack, so I guess you could say I'm looking for something thats between a ruck a smaller bag. If that clarifies it at all.
I'll have to check out AER and alpha one niner. I'm also trying to stick with American made bags.
I've looked at ospreys but feel like I would tear up those bags pretty fast.

I have a Kifaru Urban Zippy that I was using for most EDC, and I bought a Shape Charge as something I could travel/hike with. I am finding that I grab the urban zippy still more than the Shape Charge. Although the Shape Charge is awesome, it's just a tiny bit too big which is what I found was the problem with the 3DAP too. A Shape Charge the size of the urban zippy...now we're talking.

I would second the recommendation for Osprey. They make great packs. Check out the Kifaru Echo if you can live with 1800 cu in. I have the original Antero and added the organizer pouch, fits quite a bit. Very comfortable too.

I have a shape charge and used it for EDC for a while. It was just too big for my needs, but it's a great bag. And when you combine it with the omni belt and some pockets it's pretty versatile for the woods/hunting. I traveled with it as well. So it's pretty great and it's totally bomb proof. I have not used the MR. Although I'm not a fan of the 3 way zipper into the bag, but that's a personal preference.

If you decide to go to the shape charge, PM me. I'm looking to unload mine. It's a ranger green, and I have the Omni belt in a small and 3 pockets, one of each in S, M, and L. All ranger green. Good luck in your search.

Take a look at the Mystery Ranch Pop-Up 40. Sounds like it'll do everything you're talking about, and all of the MR packs are pretty bombproof.

I'll throw in the Mystery Ranch Blitz 35 as something to look at. I use it mainly as my one bag for travel. It can fit a lot of gear, and I can cinch a jacket down underneath the lid.

Currently running the Mystery Ranch Catalyst 26 for EDC.... just took it on a trip to Nebraska and have been very, very impressed. Ran both Kifaru (Urban Ruck w/ Organizer) and Kuiu (Venture Divide 2000) before this one..... and it was a fraction of the price. (Currently 179.00 on amazon, but I caught it on sale for about 120.00 a while back) the outside is black, but the inside is bright orange, which makes it super easy to find things in.
Worth a look.

I use a Mystery Ranch Blitz 35 for the kinds of activities you're describing. Very solid, very comfortable, and incredibly durable. I took the waist belt off of mine. Another one I use a lot that's slightly smaller but less tactical looking and also really durable is the Fjallraven Singi 28. Great modularity, you can add modules to the sides/front to make it hold a lot more. Good luck!

Own 3DAP so cant speak on the shape charge and after having it for a while now the tri-zip gets kinda annoying to get in and out of. Wish they made the spade lock laptop pocket for it still. Also owning a Xray I never liked the shoulder straps which r the same on the shape charge. I prefer shoulder straps with more padding which i did like on the 3DAP and straps that can’t get twisted
