I have been having troubles getting my rifles with rubber butt pads out of the gun bearer in a hurry. My limbsaver butt pads and tikka stocks are the worst. Kifaru’s butt cradle seems to be too grippy a material for those butt pads and even trying a twisting motion does little to alleviate the issue.

I am considering gluing some type of material to the inside of the cradle to alleviate this tacky issue. Maybe milk jug plastic. Any suggestions?

I know what you’re talking about and for me it’s technique. I have zero problems with my gun bearer and can have my rifle out swiftly with zero issues. My hunting partner on the other hand always looks like he’s fighting with his....

Assuming you’re right handed...pull the release table with your right hand, left hand come across to the stock to hold the rifle from falling...then slide your right hand down the side of the stock to the cradle, while your left hand is pulling the rifle up and out of the cradle and away from your body. Then use the right hand to knock the cradle lose off of the butt stock. Make sense? That seems to work for me every single time and I can be really fast with it.

I use the Kuiu lower, it attaches on each side and won't twist as much, making it easier to get leverage on as well. Lot less material to catch too. My rifle slips out just like the gun bearer, but if yours is bigger or you have trouble you can also learn to undo the kifaru upper with your left hand and the kuiu buckle with your right in one movement.

Mine was really sticky when everything was wet, until I filed off the underside of the limbsaver pad (the pointy end).

I found I have to really make sure I pull the rifle out vertically to avoid having it come out funny.
I also try and make sure its on the leading edge of the gun bearer if that makes sense.

I fought this same problem last season with my Gunsite Scout. I’m liking the duct tape idea, maybe add some crisco...

Thanks for the replies. I’ll do some more experimenting. I definitely don’t want to think about the process and I typically have one trekking pole in my hand so I have an expectation of once the buckle is released, that rifle should be coming out with one hand as I decide if I’m shooting off hand or trekking pole support, pack support or a natural brace.

Is that a native under there?

You guys don't carry your rifle when hunting? Mine is only in the gun bearer when hiking in or out

Depends on your style of hunting...... having my bino's glued to my face gets me unhurried opportunities on deer in the areas I hunt. If it was super thick and I was playing bump & shoot them then yeah...the gun would be best placed in my hands.

Regarding hanging up in the holster during the draw, I believe it to be down to technique....I had this problem when I started using mine, now it's an over learned instinctive action and it just falls into my hands.

The tape works well as people say.

I’ve had the problem with a couple rifles and a shotgun (turkey gun). I don’t worry about it other than when in bear country when I want fast access. They pads that are the worst are the limbsavers. On a wood stocked rifle with a grind to fit pad a piece of electrical tape worked great and was inconspicuous. Just a 6-8 inch piece of duct tape on the pad from one side up over the heel and back down works. In my cases covering the heel area worked perfectly, no need to try to get the toe as well.

I nearly always add something to raise the comb for cheek weld and a beartooth neoprene sleeve works double duty if you pull it on far enough to cover the pad.
