So I got a new guide lid that now has the female clip on all 4 corners. Problem is there's no male end on the new duplex frame. Looks like there's a guide lid k clip kit they sell. Do I have to buy this too? I kinda figured it would come with everything I needed to attach it to the frame???

It doesn't have ladderlocks on the top/front?

Glad I'm finding this out now, I was thinking about ordering one!

No, there's no ladderlocks on the lid. I think they used to be like that. It's a female SR on all 4 corners now. Not sure why the frame doesn't come with males so you can snap it right on? Unless I'm missing something?

Try this another way... if you look at the "guide lid kit" you can see the picture of the guide lid mounted on a frame. The guide lid has SR female buckles on all 4 corners so you need a male on the frame to attach it to. I guess you have to buy the kit for $18 to get it to attach???

Just buy or ask Kifaru if you bought it direct for two male buckles. Take the webbing that normally goes through the ladder loc and thread it through the male buckles.

The guide lids that I've bought recently from Kifaru have no ladder locs on them. I like it better cause of the quick detach of the lid.

ETA: I didn't know they made a guide lid kit. Interesting way to run it on the frame alone (without bag)

There is no webbing attached that you run a ladder lock through. Only a plastic connector to put a slider through and a loop where I'm guessing you use a k clip?

I'm just surprised they sell the lid with a female connector but don't give you a male connector to attach to the frame so you can attach your lid? I was thinking maybe they forgot to throw those pieces in the box? If you have to buy them separate, I'd think they would tell you when you order?

I took the compression straps off my bag which is basically what I need. Male SR on one end and k clip on the other. This will work since I'm just running a cargo panel with the lid for now. I'll need those straps though once I put the bag on my frame come summer.

Oh well, guess I'll call and see about getting the appropriate connectors. I bet theres probably a few other things I need to make an order worthy of shipping!

I'm no expert but I think when you buy the guide lid it's intended to attach to a bag. The bag will have vertical compression straps with male SR buckles that will then connect to your guide lid. If you want to just run the lid on your frame then yes you will need the the k clip compression kit.

I'm no expert either, so that makes two of us! I have an EMR2 and it does have vertical straps on the back of the bag that would connect to a ladderlock connector on the lid. I will have to put two male SR connectors on those too for when I want to use the bag with the guide lid. There are however male SR connectors on the vertical straps that are on the front of the bag, that hold down the lid.

I was looking to add a Guide Lid to my non-duplex Timberline 2. Is the 4 female SR buckles the new attachment method? If so it sounds like we might both need to add male SR buckles to the typical lid attachment straps?

My guide lid came with the ladder locks. Not sure when or why they changed the design. You can get split ladder locks from Kifaru and replace the SR buckles. Call and talk to them. Customer service is top shelf.
I also purchased a couple of kits on ebay so I could do mods to different packs I own.

OP, did you call Kifaru and talk to them? Just thinking out loud, but those lids are sewed by humans and they could have just unintentionally sewed on 4 SRBs and it slipped through QC if that wasn't an intended design change.

I'd definitely start with a call to Kifaru before I went full custom shop on it. :D

I bought a lid to run directly on the frame with no bag and the included a straps with it that has a 3 bar stop on one end and the male buckle on the other. The strap runs through the common loop on the pack. It works but I have a mile of straps to deal with. If I recall I had to tell them I was running the lid with no bag and then they hooked me up with those straps.

I was planning to call today. I didn't specify I wanted to run it directly to the frame. Didn't think I needed to? I will want to run it with my bag on the frame too. So I'll still need a couple male SR buckles for when I attach it to the bag. Will also need the male SR with the 3 bar slider for when I want it to attach to the frame. I'll let everyone know what I find out and why they didn't include some male buckles so I could actually attach the thing???
