Kifaru as a Carry-on

I'm considering the Late Season 3400ci or Spike Camp 2400ci with 22in stays for some upcoming hunts where I don't need my 7400ci EMRII bag and Bikini Frame setup. I'm after something a little more compact that can do double duty as a carry-on with the airlines and still be a comfortable and functional daypack when I get to the hunting area after traveling.

Are the suspensions on these packs equal to the Bikini suspension in terms of comfort?

Will the 22 inch stays be okay with my height at 6' and with normal day hunt or maybe gear for an overnighter?

No problem with attaching my rifle and other kifaru accessories to them?

I've flown quite a bit with my 26 inch bikini frame and EMRII bag mostly empty as a carry-on and haven't had any issues, but this combo is a bit overkill for some of the hunts I have booked coming up, as well as the amount of travel involved. something smaller, but equally functional would be much more practical. I just don't need a 7400 ci bag for these hunts.

What say you?

Dont have any experience with either of the ones you mentioned but I have a Xing(2700ci, 22" stays). I find the wrap tech suspension to be more comfortable that my bikini and duplex frames. All the accesories I run on my EMRII attatch to the Xing with out issue(Gun Bearer, pockets, grab it, long pockets, pods). Great little pack.

Sent you a pm. The late season should work but may be a tad big if stuffed full and the airline gets picky. I have an in between kifaru late season/spike camp that works perfect. Can't get this from Kifaru unless the person sewing it up messes up again, lol.

The suspension is very comfortable for me up to 60lbs, I like it better then my bikini with less then 30lbs anything over and the bikini is better, no worries on your height, I'm 5'11 and it works great for the intended purpose.

The normal accessories will attach.

I have a late season and use it as a carry on every time I fly! Works well! By the way ...the late season is a bad ass rig! From a day pack carry on to a elk quarter carrying in comfort! Very versatile pack!

I'm 6'2" and 22" stays work fine for me up to around 50 - 60 lbs. I personally would choose the Late Season over the Spike Camp. With the Late Season you have the ability to use 24" stays. A Late Season with 24" stays could carry 100 lbs fairly comfortably. For the most part all the Kifaru pack accessories will fit on the Late Season and Spike Camp. I have a G1 Late Season (21" stays) but I would love to get the newer Late Season. I just have too many packs right now. :)

I regularily carry on my T1 and Nomad with 26" inch stays and have NEVER had a problem. Go with as long as you can get. (24)

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

I'll probably go with the late season. Now a questions for those that might be in the know....any material changes expected for this pack in the new year or am I good to order now? I hate ordering stuff and then a month later, a new, improved version comes out!

I used to use my MR Dragonslayer as carryon. It worked well, but people in the airports kept coming up to me to "thank me for my service", free bottles of water at the concession stand, and people trying to buy my dinner. Felt pretty stupid explaining that it was just a backpack and I was going to a business meeting not a war. I suggest long hair and an Obama sticker to prevent confusion.
