My son is turning 11 and in a kids xl(lose but not huge). For the few year he has had hand me down but those are getting small and worn out. For this who have had kids go through this phase did you buy adult small to keep them in cloths a few years longer?(im not sure of he would be swimming in a small).

We pretty much hunt whitetails and some furbearers in the winter, small game we wear whatever and arent too picky.

I would have him try on a couple of mens small items and see how they fit. At that age (based on mine), they outgrow things fast. I would definitely go a size up and hope to get two years out of it.

We’re buying adult small for our 10 year old. Should fit him perfect when he’s 11, slightly baggy now. He’s a bigger kid though

I've also had better ROI buying the kids stuff from the higher end companies -- KUIU, Sitka, etc. For the stuff he has outgrown, its been pretty easy to flip it on FB marketplace or classifieds for 70-90% of what I paid for it.

I get the desire to size up, but found they're a lot more comfortable and having fun in gear that fits. I find the adult stuff has slightly different proportions than the kids cut.

Kids stay warmer than older adults. Keep them in lighter layers rather than a heavy bulky coat. Layer with a good wind breaker and an insulation piece, lightweight base layer, a hand warmer muff with a pair of thinsulate gloves, toboggan and you're good to go. Get yourself a good pack so you can add and subtract layers as needed.
