I have had 21 of those bass-turds.
Three were 10mm. I passed all of them naturally. A curse is an understatement. Didn't know what pain was until I started getting them.
Peeing them out is a cake walk compared to the pain, nausea and vomiting while they pass from the kidney to the bladder!

Yes…. Peeing them out is the least problematic and painful part. When you have one stuck in the ureter or slowly moving through the ureter from kidney to bladder, it feels like someone has your in a pair of pliers trying to tear them off of you.

LOL. I had back pain a bunch when I was younger, prior to discovering chiropractic care, and found a new level of pain one afternoon. Thankfully, I was home and had access to the oral Hydrocodone syrup left over from my son's tonsillectomy. It wasn't until years later when I was in nursing school that I put three and 87 together and figured out it was a kidney stone.

Holy cats it hurt. I am tougher than most and it was pretty horrendous. That 30 minutes until the meds kicked in was a miserable experience.

Glad you got some drugs.

I've had three...first one I passed out from the pain and woke up in the hospital high as a kite and found out I had two more in my left kidney. About a month later, I was peeing blood, but that was about it for that one, but this lat one...I felt it coming on, told the wife she's going to have to take me to the ER in a little bit, when I got there, I was hurting. They doped me up pretty good, wanted me to stay the night, but went home anyway. The next morning, I had to go see urologist, who happened to see my CT scan, he sent me to the hospital right away, and within the hour had me on the operating table, come to find out, the last stone was too big to pass and he had to push it back into my kidney, and blast it with a laser, then he stuck a stent in. That stent was the absolute worst thing ever, and when he pulled it out, holy heck, pure pain. I'm so hoping I'm done.

I had to have mine broken up with that sonar thing in order to pass them. Terrible experience. Catheter was hands down worst experience of my life. I went to a specialist that said drink lemon water religiously, I try to get as much lemon as I can but at minimum I aim everyday for 100+oz h2o, no issues since. God speed.

I’ve had three myself. First one I thought I was dying huddled up on the cool bathroom floor. No ER visit and no pain meds. 2nd one wife and I were out to dinner with my folks when it hit. I almost puked with that one and that was a miserable ride home. 3rd one had me pacing back and forth and saying every swear word I knew and didn’t know. No pain meds on this one either. I started drinking tons of water when I realized what it was and that helped push it out a lot faster. They freakin hurt!

Pro tip: Never say "15" when asked 0-10. Say 9+ and relay that it's likely a stone, if you're relatively certain you have one. Many medical folks have had them and can sympathize.

I’ve had many bouts with kidney stones. Passed a few, had a few removed. Nothing fun about them. Incredible pain. Two years in a row I got them deer hunting in Wyoming. My father also suffered from them and he used to tell me riding around in an old Jeep deer hunting brought on many bouts of his own with them. Drink your water.

Regrettably I’m in the club. At the ER the nurse said “sir if I give you any more pain killer your heart will stop” yeah, so, what you waiting for? The sudden massive influx of opiates that didn’t work shut my plumbing down. After three days it is hotly contested which was worse. What really sent me off the rails was the size of the gd thing when I passed it. It was tiny. Your post brought back phantom pains. I kind of hate you for it.

This has to be the single most horrific post I’ve read on Roklslide. The mental picture is, well, I have no words.

I felt like someone was knifing me in the back while mine migrated down to my bladder. T was easy street from there by comparison.

Good luck man, and best wishes that it passes quickly. I've been there once and it was truly the worst pain I've ever experienced. I've ruptured discs and at least with that you can sometimes find a position to find temporary relief, but there is NO escaping that kidney stone pain when it's in your back.

Kidney stones must be worse than giving birth... I've heard women say they want another baby, but never heard anyone say they want another kidney stone!

Dilaudid IV: check, plus the wife having to remind me to breathe because I kept stopping.
Went home from the ER and laid on the couch for a couple of days, on drugs and in pain. Woke up at 0200 giggling like a little girl from the absence of pain as it had passed into my bladder - and I could FEEL it in my bladder but it didn't hurt. Passing it was nothing.

I've been there's as well! Awful pain! Puking, writhing, pacing. Nothing makes any difference until the powerful meds kick in. My first one got stuck and had to be surgically removed. Spent several days in the hospital trying to flush it, but it didn't budge. The next time I passed three at one time after 3 weeks of minor discomfort.

Get it analyzed after you pass it. Knowing what causes it can help prevent another. Mine were thanks to high uric acid. I now drink a lot of water with crystal light lemonade flavor pack, contains potassium which counteracts the uric acid, or so I'm told. That and severely cutting back on the diet mt dew seems do have done the trick. Knock on wood.

1:10 Do not Recommend.

I noticed a little back ache yesterday around 5:30am I figured it was trapped wind. By 7:15 I was in the ER & getting IV painkillers (they say that laughter is the best medicine. It's not. Dialaudid is the best medicine!) CT scan confirmed a 4mm stone above my left kidney.

Came home with enough Hydrocodone to fell a zoo full of elephants. I usually refuse any kind of opioid, but this time out....gimme.

First time in my life (including the gunshot wounds) I've ever vomited purely from pain.

Guys. Eat healthy, cut down on the bourbon & salt & drink yer water. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

They are the worst! My biggest fear is having one while in the back country. I bring a few hydrocodone with me wherever I go. They are pretty damned expired now. Hope they still work otherwise it’s going to be hell getting out!

I’ve had them twice now and each time the pain lasted 12-17 hours. Had surgery to clear some things up, they removed about 25+ stones… haven’t had an issue since, thankfully!

Skiing and biking with that think sucked. Peeing blood, fatigue, uncomfortable…. I am thankful mine didn’t have a string otherwise I’d be tempted to remove it myself….

however when it came time to get it out, no string…. I won’t go into detail on how they snake it out and how uncomfortable it was. Anti anxiety pill I got before the “procedure” did not help. I’ll request to be put under for it in the future…
