Decided to get a pair of Darn Tough socks which don't appear to be all that tough considering the tag on the tongue of the HS started to pull fibers and make a hole in the sock after wearing the socks for one day. Noticed this after I ordered a couple more pair of DT socks. Did the only thing a guy could do and pulled out the knife and removed the tag. Had to use a little Goof Off to get the sticky residue left from the double sided tape used under the tag.

Been wearing the boots for a couple weeks with Costco Merino wool socks and didn't have this issue.

I have a pair of Darn Tough socks and I'm not very darned impressed with them (or Smartwool). I have had really good luck with most of the the Kenetrek socks though, they are my go to brand.

I had to use the Darn Tough warranty within a year of my first pair. Gave me a voucher to use on another pair. Fibers pulling out on the second pair too. Comfortable socks, but definitely not as durable as I expected.

Ya I'm not all that impressed with DT Merino wool socks right now considering for $20 one can get a 4 pack of merino socks at Costco that seem to hold up way better then a single pair for $25.

I'm trying out the DT Cool Max sock tomorrow but since I modified the boot tongue I guess I won't know if the simple boot tag will mess them up.

I've been wearing my Darn Tough socks for the past 3 years, for work and hunting. Haven't had any issues with them at all.

I wear darn tuff socks daily and have wore out a few pairs. They have all lasted me 4+ years of daily use. I rotate through about 8 pairs. Cant say enough good about them.

I've got a couple weeks or so in the DT's full cushion and I have to say I like them. Wore the Costco Merino wool socks for a week or so when the DT were in the wash and when I put the DT back on it was a noticeable difference in comfort for my feet.

One thing I learned is don't get both Cool Max and Merino socks in the same color as its near impossible to tell them apart. Not sure the Cool Max really do anything over the Merino as one day I had a sock of each kind on my feet and both felt about the same.

Guess I am full involved in the DT fan club as I now have 3 merino wool pair and 2 Cool Max pair, 2 pair just arrived today.

Just watch out for rough boot tongues and remove the label in the tongue before it pulls the sock threads out.
