K4 dayhunting/lid question

I apologize if this has been addressed already, but I’m wondering how much height the lid adds to the k4 3600 bag when it’s only partially full. I haven’t used more than 50% of the volume in this bag since I got it (dayhunting, I probably went way overboard but I love the frame), and I’d like a little more quick access and organization, but don’t want additional bulk or pack height.

From what I can see, the lid would kinda “fold over” the empty top half of my bag and not add to the overall height, but I’d love to hear from anyone with first hand experience here. I have the crib panel as well, and have been thinking of adding a smaller bag to it. That plus the lid could make a great daypack (and be cheaper than the 2200).

I’ve also thought about just getting a small non-framed day pack, but that just seems unnecessary when I already have a great pack.

Any thoughts from y’all? Would the lid be a good way to get some quick access/not have to unbuckle everything without adding much extra height or bulk? Or am I just trying to force my current setup into a suboptimal use case?

On my K4 5000, if the main bag is mostly empty it does fold mostly back. I wouldn't think it would be problem at all.

It's probably the best designed lid in the business. I think the positives outweigh the savings of not having it.

I keep my essentials kit, headlamp, snacks and TP in my lid in my exo and Kifaru packs. Lids are great for quick access, I’ll even toss my water in the lid while packing meat and dropping my main bag.

Have the K4 5000 in Ranger green, decided to also get the 2200 and got the orange lid for the 2200. If your pack is not full to the brim, the lid will ride on the back of the pack, not adding any height. The orange lid works when you have an orange vest and the pack covers it from the rear view. Also a little extra safety measure when carrying antlers on your pack.

I use the lid on my K4 5000 for daily essentials. Mostly food and snacks, headlamp, a small paper back Louis LaMore book. TP goes in the water bladder compartment as well as a few game bags. First aid and survival gear are in swing out pockets attached to the inside of the pack. Kill kit is on the bottom of the pack. Smaller things go in the hip pockets. I day hunt mostly so the pack is cinched down pretty small.

You can adjust the lid's position by using the straps to lower it, so it sits more on the back of the pack instead of on top of it.

I throw the lid in the pack and then roll the top down and clip the rolled top to the awaiting lid clips lower on the pack.

I use the lid during rifle for my 15 x binos. I take it off during archery season and made some modifications to use a bow spider where the bottom of the lid normally sits. It is nice to have the lid when you need quick access to more gear.
